Started up the Brumby in the driveway to go to work and it spluttered to a halt like it ran out of fuel. Lucky it didn't halt in the car park at Bunning's or the By-Pass lights...........I'd have to walk home.

Checked the carby that night and it was dry.

Ordered a new fuel pump and it arrived today so I hope it was the pump that died. Probably fit it in a few days and see if it starts.

Still the original pump (1988). Pretty pissed off as its only done 148k's. Still under warranty I wonder?????? Probably some loophole they'll find where I can't claim it.

First time it has stopped. Must be a first for a Brumby?

Might be what you and others have fed it over the years. Does not hurt if tank is close to empty to pull sender off at the back of the tank to ensure it is all nice and clean inside, maybe even blow air backwards from front to pump and from pump to tank to avoid other issues that arise about this age. Another thing at this age is fusible links can corrod and cause grief.

I agree with Alex.. just remember there is 2 fuel filters in the Brumby

Whilst on this topic, does anyone know the Ryco number for the filter under the ute near the pump? I wanna change it but keep getting sidetracked.

Haven't got the official number but it was just an ordinary filter about 50mm long, in and out either end. Changed it a couple of times. over the years.

I put a new fuel pump in and gave the key one turn and it fired up first go.

Drove around the block to "try it out" as we do. What a difference a new fuel pump makes.

Been driving it for a week now and can actually feel it has a bit of get up and go. Pump must have been stuffed for years. It was always hard to start first time, a few cranks and then it would go. A lot better pick up now.

Glad to hear you worked it out, they go pretty well when they are performing how they are supposed too don't they.

Sounds just like mine. Where did you get the pump from and $$ ?

Yes they really do, especially with low kms like I'm lucky to have. Mine's also just had the ignition system overhauled with new leads, cap and coil (was badly corroded) and boy did that make a difference!

Ordered the pump thru SUperCheap $140.

It was a universal type. Pretty easy to fit, had to change one fuel line with a bend in it.
