Subaru Viziv Concept ...

Post by Bantum » Wed Mar 06, 2013 11:02 am

Saw this in my browzing today :

Image

Like the Scissor doors & interoirs ... :)

Image

Interesting rear end ...

Image

It's a diesel hybrid - will try find some more info in it ... :D

More details here ...

Add ; From info gleaned above & other pages: It's a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a 2.0-litre turbo diesel and single electric motor driving the front wheels, while the rears are powered exclusively by independent electric motors in each rear wheel. It has a computer controlled system that manages the torque output to all wheels, between the front and rear axles & also between the rear wheels independently ... Aided with the deletion of the prop shaft running from the engine to the rear axle ...

Cheers, Bantum ...

That thing is pretty damn cool. Sort of reminds me of a real low profile version of a Cayenne, but sexier ;)

Pretty cool  I'm guessing it's gonna stay firmly planted in the concept department though...

Yeah, they usually look cool at the concept department and then the ones that do get out of there get progressively un-cooler in the name of productivity, cost control, ease of manufacture...

Reminds me of an inflated Alfa Romeo.

I like that.

Be interesting to see what becomes of the concept when it hits real-world.

Considering the Forester is Subarus best seller (here at least) I'd think they were pretty loath to mess with it.

Im curious as to how the rear electric motors will hold up offroad....

Because from how i understand it it could mean that the rear wheels are essentially 'locked'??? As long as the computer torque control manages them well offroad it could be beastly. And electric motors are awesome torque wise.

New release :
Good video of the updated ViZiV concept - it looks a bit like a 'Transformers' bot at the start with sliding / lambo doors. Not sure about all the LED lights though.

It will be interesting to see where Subaru goes with it ... :)

Pretty neat but I see potential parking issues let alone some pedestrian walking past getting taken out by those rear doors coming back out of ther blue boof, One down next sucker for future technology lessons.

The Front doors open very wide and as everyone with a Coupe or Brumby knows long doors can be an issue when people park too damn close in parking lots because you don't have the room to fully open your doors unlike shorter four door vehicles.

Certainly a vast improvement now Subaru no longer have the GM influence boy was that a styling era best forgotten.
