Subaru Global Movie - I want you guys!

Post by TimWhite » Wed Jan 15, 2014 4:39 pm

Hi there,

How are you all doing?

I'm Tim White, Melbourne based filmmaker, and Subaru Forester owner.

Last year Subaru Global commissioned me to create a new film showcasing the brand in a new and exciting way. I spent two hectic weeks flying across the globe, meeting real Subaru owners and briefly filming them with their cars. We ended up with this short pilot movie:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mc1w2-Jgv08

Now we're trying to do something pretty ambitious by inviting Subaru owners all over the world to submit their own footage. I'm going to edit it all into a short film celebrating Subaru's history and the diverse people that love their cars.
You can find out more about the project here:

http://subaru360-degree.com/

There's only a couple of weeks left before the deadline and I'd like to personally invite the AUSubaru community to get involved. So far there's plenty of people from Europe and Japan sending us footage, but Australians are somewhat underrepresented. I'm seeing heaps of footage of people driving in the snow, which isn't making me feel so great about Melbourne's current weather forecast.

There are a few ways you can get involved: If you have an iPhone, you can download the app which makes it all very easy. If you don't have an iPhone, you can upload on youtube, or my dropbox account. Please feel free to get in touch with me directly if you have any questions at all: tim (at) whitelie.com.au

Whatever model car you have (so long as its a Subaru obviously), whatever age, whatever condition.. I'd love to see you enjoying it! If you need some some inspiration for what to shoot, check out the pilot movie above. The more interesting and fun the footage is, the better this movie will be!

Cheers,
Tim

Gidday Tim, welcome to the forum ... :)

Yes we are aware of your work & good to see you found your way here ... :p

Do check out some of the video files the members have loaded on here & on YouTube, although I'm not sure if they are suitable for what you want ( it might take a bit of prodding / digging through old threads to find stuff though ) will see if I can find some for you ... ;)

This was one that I added last year ... :D

NachaLuvca - That one's great! Please do get involved... The more the merrier!

Bantum - Thanks for introducing me to this community and nice running into you again!
I'll definitely be digging through the forums for some good content. I think Subaru have some concerns in that we get permission from owners to use their footage.

It'd also be great to get more of those 360 rotation shots with owners in front of their cars. It's really nice to see the real people behind the cars as well as the cars themselves!

Thanks guys!

NachaLuva - Awesome videos! Thank you so much! I reckon I could easily fit them in the edit. If you so happen to be out driving again in the next couple of weeks, I'd love some shots of you posing in front of your car for that 360 spin! This film is as much about the drivers as it is the cars.

TOONGA - Nice shots man! The bumpy one from inside your brumby is pretty epic! These should definitely find their way into the edit. And yeah, same goes as above, if you get any time to shoot yourself, your partner, your mate, whoever - in front of your car, in those 8 positions around the car.. I would be eternally grateful!

steptoe - If you've got some kind of saucy content.. You can totally send it to me, though I can't guarantee it'll make it in the movie... I think Subaru Global want things G rated.

I was wondering a few stills , natural poses, while head under bonnet - covered in filth from an engine transplant. Closest to saucy would be some bum crack :p

steptoe - if you can shoot some tasteful video with your head under the bonnet, I would be honoured to include your bum crack in the film. haha!

Feel free to use any of mine from my youtube channel:

Some that will hopefully tickle your interest :)

Here's Venom snatching Dulagarl - both have H6 conversions. Both were in very slippery conditions!

Raw footage videos of Ruby Scoo:

And a couple of my favourites:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qwudtary2_A

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpuSM73UH2g

I've really got to finish off the bunyip trip from almost a year ago :( Been very slack on the video editing in recent years.

Like most of us I've got loads of little clips etc, trouble is having the time to sift through all the pics to find the videos then go through the videos for the good stuff...

Massive job you've got mate! Now I wish I had some footage of Ruby Scoo with her new snorkel to see if you could fit the footage in there somewhere...

Cheers

G'day Tim, you can't make a movie without including a clip of the "Flying Fossil" at Yandina, somebody on this Forum will have the clip stashed away somewhere.

Ahaa! found a link to the video clip in this post.

Bennie - Thanks so much mate! There's some great stuff in those youtube videos. I definitely need to edit in that Aus flag waving about. It might be a long shot, but do you happen to have any of these videos at a higher resolution? I can probably work with whats there on youtube, but if you've got any uncompressed stuff, it'll definitely look better in the film.

Subyroo - hahaha... That's an epic video! It's a pretty low-res clip, so I'll see how I go with it.. If you're willing to re-enact that moment, I'm more than happy to come and shoot it!

I just saw this thread, well a few months ago i bought a pair of subaru's, both 82 models, one GL5 4 door, and a GLF coupe, i finally got around and put the coupe on club rego and after doing an oil change i today did a 600k round trip to melbourne and back, ran liike a charm even with over 350k on the clock, topped up the fuel tank and it took less than 42l, do the numbers.

Those dunes look like so much fun!! Do you have any higher resolution copies of the WRX at the dunes?

No higher res soz, I've lost contact with the guy who took them and it was done with a GoPro so not sure on original res, I do have high res pics from the same day/time/place, even won a month on Dirty Impreza USA's calendar last year, not that the bast...s sent me my winning gifts.

I think it was this one
