I don't know exact figures as I highly doubt that my sister kept fuel usage records or even took note of fuel consumption.

I can tell you that at 100km/h your engine will be pulling 3500rpm; at 110km/h ~4000rpm or a little less.

By comparison, a manual does ~3250rpm at 100km/h and roughly 3500rpm at 110km/h...

I can't ask her to record milage to fuel usage as the vehicle is now a manual - the front diff let go due to being run without oil for a period of of time and a manual is all we had to replace it with :twisted:

Damn, my high roof LWB Transit van uses less than 11 on the highway and probably only 10 around town and my Liberty uses less than 8L per 100kl averaging about 130kph on a country run.

I'd say half your problem is the exhaust is too big for a stock 1.8 and not getting enough back pressure, I'd have a section of 1.5" or 1.75" stuck in the guts to reduce the diameter a bit, I had a similar problem with my old petrol Landcruiser with extractors and a 3" system, no matter how I drove it I couldn't get any better than 25L per 100kl, lucky it had 2 lpg tanks lol.

well its made the car alot better than the standard exhaust that was on it. was getting about 14 around town with old exhaust on it.

so far since change to 91 I am now using 11.55 L per 100 around town and 11.16 with a mixture of around town and highway with probably 70% of it being highway. still seems crappy but is better than it was doing I think. car does likely need a major service as I haven't yet done the routine change plugs,leads,air and fuel filter, dissy cap,rotor button, coil, have done an oil change though.

All of these things couldn't hurt Ill just have to keep chipping away at them once I fix my dreaded crank seal leak (timing kit).

Discovered that my suby was running 20 degrees advanced dropped it back to 12 degrees and will be waiting to test 98 octane in it.

Is your subi carb or MPFI? If it's MPFI set it back to 20 degrees BTC - this is how they need to be so that the ECU can correctly adjust the timing.

If it's a carb you've done the right thing. Also, I found this website when sorting some stuff out for a lesson the other week - compare your L to these stats ;)

Car is Carby. I tried the 98 and found I cannot beat the economy of the car running on 91 and 10 degrees. so at the moment that is the tune I am running with (loving cheap 91 prices at the moment :).

update on maintenance so far starting with timing belt after pulling the timing cover off my brother was able to take the belts off by hand (my god) those tensioners must have been the original because they were shot, one belt had major cracks in it while the other looked fairly new but covered in oil so we put the timing belt kit in found both rocker covers were leaking. Fixed that then found it was leaking out the oil pump and the sump gasket. Fixed that found oil leak stopped but was leaking pools of trans axle fluid under it replaced the seals on the side of that which seams to have fixed that epic pain in the butt.

Then over Christmas break was able to do plugs, n leads but I developed a miss fire at idle which after mucking around I am suspecting is need for new fuel filter so soon Ill get one of them fit it and see if that helps it.

Have you ever changed the air filter? I had an old escort that had atrocious economy and would run on for 15sec or so after switching off, turned out to be the air filter.

Yeah D have replaced that too :P did notice it help a little. On a note decided to run with some 98 octane to see if it might help a little and while I am still only running 10 degrees and I didn't obviously get the power gains for it I did return a better economy of roughly 10L per 100 with mostly town driving, this was prior to fuel filter and engine cleaner being sprayed.

and now the list of replacements I have done in the past 3 months and despite this still have misfire (some are totally unrelated though I think):

Plugs (brand new)
Leads (brand new)
Rotor button (brand new)
Air filter (brand new)
fuel filter (brand new)
Timing belt kit (brand new)
Oil Pump seals (brand new)
fan belts (brand new)
trans axle seals (brand new)
Rocker cover Gaskets (brand new)
Water pump (brand new)
Sump Gasket (brand new)
Oil filter an oil (brand new 20/W50 gulf western oil.

spayed upper engine cleaner through it today which improved the idle but there is still an unpleasant miss fire there.

I am wondering maybe I have split a Vacuum hose? either that or my carby needs a rebuild car has only done 181 000kms? Or I have put mucked up a Vacuum hose and crossed them up?

Next items on my list (feels like it gets bigger :( lol).
14 inch rims
Carby rebuild
Replacing vacuum hoses a meter at a time lol
Automatic transmission service
left and right ball joints
tires n wheel alignment.
coil
Dissy Cap
thermostat
Radiator + hoses
Aircon conversion R134A an gas
Tinted windows.
(All hopefully this year).

Well I got the gear box service done but its gotta go back in next week because the module on the side of the gear box has a big hole in the in it so fixing that once the part arrives.

Got 14 inch rims running 195/65R14s they scrub a little under breaks but only on the flares. I have now also acquired a rear bar with wheel carrier for 150 which I felt was a steal and scored a 2h CB off a mate.

I went out for a 4WD drip to Gatton with some mates sadly I didn't get alot of footage but there was two creek crossings of moderate difficulty both the Navara, Triton and Hilux scrapped going through it and one of the guys had a LS Dmax which got stuck on the second crossing which 3 guys ran and gave it a push to get through my Suby scrapped the bull bar a little and rubbed the under carriage a bit but got through it fine (on road pressures cause they guys wouldn't wait for me to air down :( )

Did go over a stump I didn't see which put a tear in that already damaged front skirt that sits under the radiator support ( I plan to replace this part anyway).

Other than that am hoping to score some King springs, a Tacho out of touring wagon and 2 inch Body lift in the coming months.
