First EA twin carb I've seen in an original car, well I'm assuming it's original anyway.

RX 2 door :) 4WD complete with radar detector on the dash top ?

You are saying it is a true twin carb ...just I don't see any carbs in posted pics ???

You can tell it's a twin carb because the air cleaner has 2 wings nut (1 per carb), whereas the stock EA81 has 3. I also may have made some inquiries today ;) 890,000 yen, about $9,300 AUD for the car. Plus your importing costs, taxes etc. Import monster have their own Japanese company so even though it's a domestic only sale IM can purchase domestically and import it for you. Probably up to $14,000 all up, although probably around $13,000 or a bit less with Import Monster. Pre-1989 so you don't need compliance through RAWS, just an engineer or VASS mechanic to inspect and basically say it would have met the ADR's at the time of manufacture. Pre-1985 as well so you can put it on club rego.

The seats are awesome, probably one of the coolest bits on the car. Never seen anything but a stock style interior apart from different dash clusters.

Who would hate me if I said I'd like that running gear for my Brumby? Nah just kidding, that's very cool.

One beautiful ride for sure, don't think I've seen a factory RX with twin carb engine intact before! Pretty pricey too, considering how cheap used cars in Japan are usually but I guess this is a collectible classic over there :)

Anyone know if they had any special goodies for a driveline like LSD or something?

Yeah I'd love to know more about this car. Anyone know if it's AWD or usual 'engage only on dirt' part time? I assume the later? I was surprised that it wasn't an EA81T with the "RX" name?

It's a JDM RX. Someone's removed the factory decals from the sides though, or else it's been repainted. One of these came up for sale in NZ recently too.

It's got the same gearbox as a Brumby basically. 4-speed, FWD, 4WDhi, 4WDlo. I believe these had an LSD rear diff though. The EA81T was sold concurrently in Japan, but the EA81s was more powerful, more reliable and simpler so was the base for EA81 rally cars.

Good info! I assumed the rally cars used the T!

Is the the one in NZ you were thinking of? http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/top ... one-coupe/ it shows the stickers. Paint does look good on the One for sale, so could be a respray. The interior has a fair bit of sun fading so I'd be surprised if the original paint was still that good. I guess it's not bad though, no split dash!

Is the intake on NZ one factory (and is missing from the one for sale in Japan) or has someone added it?

That link on usmb was one of the ones I've seen. There's a couple in a wreckers yard in Central Otago, and one in the North Island that has a factory rally engine fitted, with quad carbs! Possum used to race an rx with that same engine, it was in his biography.
Cheers.

Stumbled upon an interesting E-book just now, looking for info on Possum Bourne's early Subarus. Has a brief history of Subaru cars in general and some cool advertisements from back in the day. Also goes over Subarus history in the WRC. Even has a picture of Peter Bourne's 1984 Leone RX :)

Dodgey picture capped from the E-book, page 19. Looks like he's about to roll the tyre of the rim!

Anyone see Mister Fister lining up at the international heading for NZ ? :p

Quad carbs on an 1800 ??

Gees, Sam, think you have inspired me to go see if I can find the fabricator I met some time back, complete with a kiwi accent, in the rally scene, with or at same time Possum was in the MY's.
Found my camera - hiding - and have an invite to go cold calling on a fella with an L Series RX with no compliance plates, has roll cage and was rallied :) :)

Rallied by who?!

rallied by who - I have no idea. Whole thing popped up in conversation last year, caught up with the fella last week, pushed the issue a bit ...got some feedbackand promise of an adventure :)

I believe it is white, is quite ...in its rally state ....not for sale and changed hands some time ago for a tidy sum, and not for sale .....

Be sure, to retain my post count position, I will be sure to tell - if permitted by its owner

Here's one of Possum's old RX:

I had a colour photo one I scanned out of his autobiography but it was on my old laptop, which recently died.

Here's my favourite Possum pic:

And one of the bone-stock RX I saw on Trademe a couple years back, I only wish I had the money for it back then:

I've got something of a treasure trove of TradeMe pics of old-gen Subbies. Anything interesting I spot for sale I download the pics of.
