Gearbox Leak

Having fixed the Oil pump leak issue now turn my attention to a transmission fluid leak in the Brumby. Appears to be on close inspection coming from the seal on Shifter arm sticking out of the extension housing. Looking at the Workshop manual I have it gives no dialogue on what is involved in replacing the oil seal on the shifter arm. Has anyone had to tackle this job. Majordad

Umm... I'm assuming your talking about this seal :

I think it requires pulling the box out & a strip down to get to it ... ?

I could be wrong, but El_Freddo knows more about them ... :D

Remove the shifter mechanism, do the bolt and slot trick while it's off. Once you've got that off clean up any burrs on the selector shaft, remove the old seal and replace with a lubricated new seal.

I think I used a deep socket to tap it back in place if I remember correctly. Pretty easy over all.

Another note, it's a good idea to thoroughly clean the area you're working on. Makes things very easy.

Used to do mine on an annual basis due to some impatient dude who welded the shifter to the rail to rid the slop :( The weld extended into bashing the seal every 2nd and 4th gear shift. I think I just dropped box by the crossmember to work in there

Oh the joy of walking into the garage and looking under the Brumby to find nothing, not even the slightest speck of oil. All leaks fixed you beauty. majordad
