Anyone know anything about this photo? It was in one of those "19 most awesome car crashed which will totally shock you!!!11!!" click bait lists. A reverse image search just brings up a million more such lists...

No idea, however we used to drop vehicles, including trucks from planes when I was in the army. I did witness one Unimog that was para dropped, the chute failed resulting in a Mog that was wheel height. No they didn't drive it away

I first saw that photo many years ago (maybe 5 or 6?) somewhere on the net. It must be so old by now that anyone who knew anything about it has forgotten :o

Or it's been photoshopped with some good skills back then!

If it is a photo shop job, it is a good one! I figured it wasnt exactly a new photo, that why I thought there was a chance someone remembered the story behind it.

The reason I say photoshop is because the suspension doesn't look like it's at full droop, then there's the fact that the bottom of the front wheels are above the bottom of the rear wheels - very easy to get this image with your L in the garage with a low camera height.

A more convincing photo would be to see it nosing down with the view of the underside of the vehicle. Now that would be hard to doctor without the use of a crane. Then shadows etc would be the next issue.

^I agree with El_Freddo on the angle of the car being a bit weird. For it to be so far from the lip of the ramp and so "horizontal", it would've had to be driven off the plane at speed. Not the case when you're rolling a car to the edge, where I would expect it to nose dive at a more pronounced angle.

Anyone noticed the exhaust's missing??

You make good points, and have me leaning toward that train of thought...

It does raise the question though - who had need of such a photo shopped image? That story itself would be worth hearing. :)

Can't find the footage on the internet but it is a real air drop.

The American air show of the 70s - 80s had very few problems insurance wise so this was quite common.

The guy in the photo has a parachute on and would've jumped out once the car was clear of the plane, so would've all the other sky divers in the plane.

The fast and furious franchise did it for the latest movie but with parachutes to stop the cars from being destroyed on impact.

Do a youtube search and you will see there are a couple of videos with sky divers jumping with cars. Like these fools.

Ummm... Ok.

As if skydiving isn't expensive enough as it is. Or already has enough risks!
