Portal Hubs on a Subaru

Post by NachaLuva » Fri Sep 25, 2015 11:44 pm

These would be awesome but they're not cheap, getting parts like bearings might be interesting & with the straight cut gears, he says its not good to drive over about 50-60kmh.

But they would be BRILLIANT offroad, have a 1.2 reduction, give great ground clearance under suspension components & give 4-5" lift without changing CV angles.

Hell yeah!!! ImageImage

I'd love a set - but:

They stick the tyre out WAY too far outside the guard. Even with a set of flares these things would look ridiculous! I doubt you'd be able to get a set of rims with the correct offset to put the wheel/tyre over the portal hubs.

I also don't like the idea of being restricted to ~60kmph due to noise of the straight cut gears.

Awesome idea though! And would love to see a set in person. You buying Nachaluva?? :p

Cheers

If you lived near some local tracks & had a paddock basher, these would be great.

Nah, mines a daily driver & set up for touring, definitely not going on Marvin lol

So someone finally did it. Would be a lot of fun but still totally limited by locking diffs and suspension travel.

That is one wacky looking Forrester :p Like a Unimog. Pretty well done piece of kit, is there a company making these? Do they bolt onto other cars too?
