QLD legislation and tyres for a Duel Range forester.
So nearly every tyre shop I ring reckons legally biggest sizes I can run for my forry are either 215/70R15 or 225/60R16 which sadly a mud terrain does not come in. Apparently to be classed as a 4wd vehicle one must have a transfer case, according to Dept of transport AWDs are classed under a soft roader category limiting them to 15mm diameter increase rather than the 50mm diameter increase that (4WDs) are aloud to have.
One tyre shop said to me to be classed as a 4wd you need to have a transfer case and so as such the Subaru L series is indeed a 4WD vehicle in there eyes now I am no mechanic or super guru on the matter and am still learning alot about SUBARU AWD but do duel range foresters have a transfer case? would they not need one to be able to engage low range or hi range?
If anyone is able help clarify this for me I would really appreciate it.

None of the Subaru 4wd gearbox's, whether Brumby 'L' or Foz, have a separate transfer case like bigger 4wd's do. Its all done within the gearbox.
My Brumby's compliance plate is actually stamped "4WD", has your Foz got anything like that on its comp'l plate? (assuming it was a factory dual range?)
BTW have you looked at the TOYO 'open country' tyres? They're A/T M&S and come in 215/70/15's. I know this cause I got them on my Brumby a month ago!! Seem to be a nice tyre with little to no road noise. Cant report on their off road ability as yet, as I haven't had time to get off road yet!!
Cheers, JB
Edit:- Link to them on the Toyo site.. http://toyotires.com.au/tyres/suv-4x4-t ... try-a-t-ii
