Hi All,
Thought my MY04 Liberty 2.5 manual had a crook CV joint
but according to the local Soob dealer the viscous coupler is
dodgy and will need replacing very soon. One of the "service advisers"
tells me $1500 for the new VC, which sounds about right but 8 hours
of labour to fit it as the trans has to come out. My limited research says
no, only the extension housing needs to come off to replace the VC and only
3.5 to 4 hours is all thats needed. Who's leading me up the garden path
thanks for any suggestions,
Chris...

You can never carry too much ammunition...

Yep, exactly as you described, first felt it when cruising around new housing
developments with lots of cul-de-sacs.
I'll check out your link,thanks.

You'll need one of the newer centre diffs from the 8 bolt EJ boxes. Pretty much any 5 sp box from 2000 onwards would have one. Ive replaced one while the box was on the car, it's not hard if you have a hoist or pit to use. Probably 2 hours if you had a coffee break during the process.
They just make it sound big, difficult and problematic to get some extra $$$ out of you.
