Subaru Vortex Differences

Post by Johnny T » Wed Jun 28, 2017 6:23 pm

Hi guys

I am about to buy a Series 1 Vortex and just want to know if I can put all my running gear eg: Engine, Gear Box, Diffs etc.. from my current 87.5 Serioes 2 to the new one as the Series 1 is Non Turbo, Auto and FWD.

All I know is that the body is the same and just want to know if the engine and all the bits will just be a straight swap.

If anyone can let me know as soon as possible it would be highly appericated.

Best Regards
Johnny T

Fitting ...

Post by Bantum » Wed Jun 28, 2017 9:55 pm

From what I've read / seen - All the drive train stuff should fit, but the old FWD series I may not have all the mount points for the 4WD rear end - Only one way to find out - try it & see ... :)

Cheers, Bantum ...

if its fwd it wont have the captive nuts or holes for the rear mustache bar mounts.

i have done fwd vortex to awd previously and just drilled the holes in the correct location underneath the car. its already marked where the holes need to go.

A slightly bigger hole is needed above (in the boot) to drop a bolt through/hold on to with socket when tightening.

Wiring loom may be different too. Use the manifold from the engine that comes with it to run your series 2 block.

You'll need your drive shafts as they'll most likely be the larger spline count units compare to the auto.

Is it green with the brown interior??

Thanks for the advise Bennie,

I’m going to try this weekend to get my turbo engine from the Series 2 running and then start transferring everything over the weekends with my mechanic :)

and yes it was the Green body with the brown interior and that will be swapped over with my sprayed black interior. I will be taking photos of the build and posting them up, just didn’t get a chance this weekend to get any photos.

Kind Regards
Johnny T

So you're essentially doing a re-shell job.

Swap the wiring loom as well? If you're going to run your turbo engine and all the electricals from your original Vortex I'd recommend this!

Thanks again Bennie.

If everything goes well this weekend the turbo engine will be running and slowly start the transfer :)

Is it possible to change the front end so I can have the S2 or am I stuck with the S1 front?

Front end as in engine crossmember and suspension or front end as in front bar?

Xmember and suspension is all the same and will bolt straight in.

L series suspension will work too ;)

Thanks again Bennie,

Just the front end as in Front Bumber as I am not the biggest fan of the Series 1 front :)
