outback or forester?

what vehicle would you all prefer a outback or a forester current models....im looking into getting a new car later in the year but cant decide witch would better.....any thoughts?

Test drive all of the above models. We can talk about it all day long but in the end its going to be your choice.

I personally prefer the Forester as well, although the Outback is still a very good vehicle and should be seriously considered!

We had the same dilema late last year, trying to decide between the Forester XT, the 2.5 Outback and the 3.0 Outback. A number of factors came into it, however in the end we picked the car that suited our lifestyle the best. And by going with the XT, we were able to get the Luxury with the extras we wanted. The 3.0 Outback started to get too expensive when we added all the options we wanted.

However, as previously stated, you need to pick the car that suits your needs and lifestyle the best. What's best for us could be well different to what's best for you.

Leasing or buying?

I'd have thought the Forester XT would hold it's re-sale value a bit better than the non-turbo models. I haven't driven any of the current Foresters or Outbacks so I can't comment as to which is nicer to ride in.

As others have said, really it's up to you as to what suits your needs.

Isn't the forester shorter than the outback?
I'd like a foz but i think my ladders won't fit in it.
I have a gen 1 lib wgn at the moment and i can squeeze a 10foot ladder in it!!
Might need an outback then

Does the 3.0 Outback come with a manual?

Personally, I can't do self-stirrers.

The 3.0 litre engine is only available with an auto gearbox. :(

If you want a powerful manual, then maybe you should have a look at the Forester XT.

I love my 03 XS Forester I've got over 85,000k's on it now and it has never missed a beat (dummy it's a Subaru they don't miss a beat ) I have kept a fuel log from 01/07/03 to current day and it is currently averaging 9.23 L/100k and that includes both City and Hwy cycles.

If you get any sort of Subaru make sure you negotiate to have the tyres swapped before delivery as the Geolanders are crap.
I've got Michelin Energy XM1's on mine at the moment and they are good in both wet & dry conditions and don't squeal their heads off like the Geo's do.
I've done 48,800kms on them so far and they are still looking good see thumbnail. (Click on thumbnail once and when it opens click it on again to get a better appreciation of the depth of the tread.)

Indeed .....
The Forester shares the Impreza platform and the Outback shares the Liberty platform - 2 different vehicles.

Not only is the Forester shorter, it has shorter overhangs, giving better approach and departure angles. It also has slightly shorter wheelbase, giving better rampover angle. Therefore, if getting further off road in a standard vehicle is a consideration, the Forester is better suited than the Outback.

Another consideration when weighing up these vehicles is fuel consumption. If you drive hard, the XT can consume alot of fuel - more than the 3.0l six cylinder in the Outback. Another owner of an XT up here is only getting 250km per tank full around town - but he drives it hard - my wife is getting around 450km around town in ours!

yeah i think id steer away from the turbo now i do a lot of km's and i think there abit heavy on fuel for me...the extra power would be great but hey...
