When in the sand Deflate your tyres

When down the burdeken river behind my cousins place at groper creek this arvo with a bunch of my cousins. they all had quads and two had bikes, a wr 250 (big bore to 300) and a xr 600. i figgered that since thay are all like, oh that brumby wont go near where were goin. well i was keen to impress so i deflated to 10psi and off we went. hit the sand and never even came close to geting stuck. got bored with my ute so i let one drive it while i rode the xr 600, i just want 1, not an xr just a bike in particular) and he was looking at one for 500 but was sceptical. i say was . im pritty sure he is going to buy it even though it needs an exhaust valve:rolleyes: . just gives me an excuse to do the ej swap so he can have my current motor or better yet steal(borrow) the ej 22 out of his bros g/f's liberty

(just for the record she didnt like that idea)
anyway i was even amazed at just how much of a difference the flat tyres made. so i have to buy a foot pump and pressure guage so i can do this every time i go near sand.

10 is pretty low ... you'll run the risk of rolling it off the beads. I find 16-20psi is good enough for most sand, then dump them down further if you run into trouble.

Na 10 was good did feel a bit floaty so i just took extra care on the hard stuff. it was pritty rough so i wasnt going fast... untill i got on the xr oh yea geggity geggity

yeh most people will agree with stinky.
especially if ur trying to whip nuts or something it'll roll off the bead for sure.

yea i wont be doing nuts untill i have a locked diff and dont need to deflate that far and have beed locks:rolleyes:

Yep - agree with this too. I run 18 psi on sand. Staun tyre deflaters are good for getting the pressures down quickly to the right PSI

I go down to ten on the rocks and steep trails in my Subaru, never less than 15 in my G-wagen (as it weighs twice as much as the Suby).

it depends on the tyre. If it's a 4 ply side wall then maybe 18+ is good. But the kumho 6 ply side wall doesn't bend much more with 18psi, I run 14 most of the time.
and don't go on the sand with road tyres. I have a set of 215/60 15's directional tread tyres. Even with the welded rear I got stuck enough to need my brother to push me out while going down to the Murray mouth. My kumho's never even thought of getting stuck. My brother had 185wide van tyres on with no tread left, and they done much better then the roadies. Although the roadies got some very cool drifts going on the flat river side of the sand.

the road tyres seam to sit up on top of the sand and not dig in if i brake a bit to hard. wont be geting another set. mud tyres all the way. only reason i have them is because its what was onthe car when i bought it

I have dropped tyres to around 10psi before in really soft sand, made it way easier on the drive train.

Yea this was realy soft dry powdery thats why i chose 10 over 15 or 20. wet sand i would have only gone to 15 or 20.
