Calling all KIWI members....
the genuine rally stuff available in New Zealand in the early 1980's
rumoured to be special manifold for EA81 that allowed a weber to be mounted above each head
anyone seen them, got one or got photo or got one for sale ?
rumour came from a gifted Kiwi welder I met who was in the rally scene over in there at the time - Possum Bourne drove the stuff
musta been a big cam to go with them ?!
candidate for no reply type of post. hmmph

I don't doubt what you say at all...but wasn't that just the twin hitachi set uplike I got on mine or similar to the UGLY GSR. Brian, was his name said it was a factory kit that you had to install, not just an option box to be ticked.
I doubt two webers would fit on my manifold. He said carb went directly over each head, think would need alternator shifting
I repeat, I don't doubt what you say at all

Did I hear correctly that there was only 1 or 2 of these "safari" setups built? would be fun if one was sitting in a garage corner somewhere, owner not realizing what a valuable piece of subaru history he has covered in dust

Will it ever end!?

yeah ive been digging up as much info on these as possible, looks like somone else has too =P
those 2 photos are the only ones ive ever seen. And i only expect they are 2 different units, the rumour is they were sold in Australia and NZ, america has never heard of them.
and as there are lots of members from both Aus and NZ on here wed hope they would have been found if they existed?

the parts would still be around though, this was back before crushing cars. The parts would be sitting in a wreckers or somthing if they still existed.
I expect that the ones used in the safari would of been destroyed like most, they get thrown off the boat on the way back so they dont have to pay import taxes

OK so who is up for re- manufacturing some of these ?
With todays modern rapid prototyping techniques, making some would not be out of sight, what we would need is a blueprint or a fresh drawing / design.
With a Parasolid 3d cad file in x_t format I reckon we could stamp the first one out in about 3 days
Over to you guy's

i was thinking about it giles, but whats the point in carbies they might be cool but even these would be no match for FI.
These parts are not used on anyones race cars, believe me ive looked. If they still exist theyre in somoones garage and theyve been lost.
OR!!!
somones seen them and bolted them onto a VW?

youve got a lot to learn haha, when nissan made an attack on the ARC in the 60s, 70s and 80s the cars had to be returned to nissan after they completed there work, it was so noone could buy and thus steal theyre technology. They realised it would cost nearly 100 000$a (apparently) on the import taxes back to Japan, so they scuttled them.mud_king91 wrote:i reckon the parts are sitting on some beast of a brumby in N.Z or here in S.A check out the rallies if you find a unit of a brumby in there then you know where the safari gear went hahaha

So somewhere there is a heap of rally nissans swimming with the fishes, at the bottom of the sea.
