Hey guys, I have come into the posession of a 1981 GL wagon. I'm not sure what engine is in this one. Can anyone help?

Most probably a carbied EA81 - unless someone has changed it.

thats what I was thinking too, someone was telling me that it could also be a 1.6L. But it's more likely to be a 1.8L. Just needed the 2nd opinion. TY.

I guess its possible - the engine should be stamped "EA81" somewhere. That will tell you for sure ;)

I don't know where to look for the stamp, but I'm going to be replacing head gaskets soon, and i'm sure I'll find it then. Thanks for the help.

Should be on the front Driver's side of the block from memory, or else the rear. Anyone confirm for sure.

Hehe - not to split hairs - but Nate is from the US - the "driver's side" direction might confuse ;)

For those Aussies here, I had a 1980 wagon that was a factory 1600 (but had a EA81 in it) so the MY shape did have 1600's

Yes Ben, I have seem plenty of the early 80's Subies in wreckers with EA71's in them... I think 80-81 the EA81 was an option or something.
