might be rice, but thats personal opinion,
i'm limited to engine mods
1:i'm only just getting my license mum and dad have a few rules about turbo's etc
2:i'm 18 insurance costs enough as it is without turbo etc

Yeah unfortunately turbo will have to wait.....pity tho - there is a bolt-on turbo kit for an EJ20 floating around these boards somewhere!

I'm 22 years old myself, so the whole 18 year old turbo talk is relatively fresh in my mind.
What I can tell you is that ricey stuff like Altezza lights and clear indicators are a waste of money. In fact spending any money doing up your car is a waste, if I hadn't built my Leone coupe I'd be paying off a house by now.
However I've had an absolute ball stuffing around with cars. Things are being put on the back-burner now, but if I were dealt my cards again I'd still follow the same path.
Now, on to the car modding bit....
I can't see how it would cost any more than about $5000 to turn what you have into a WRX. That said, this should be a consideration in the future. My EJ20T Leone found its way onto the road when I was 20, and I felt this was about the right time for it. Until then the fastest car I'd owned was my wagon (EA81). I can totally see where your parents are coming from, if they let you on the road in a WRX at this stage of the game they'd be mad.
Save your money and keep the RX as a nice, clean car. Whack a pod, 'zorst, lights and stuff on there and you'll turn it into cop bait. Use the money saved from the pointless mods to purchase a front cut in a couple of years. Run a quiet exhaust and a Liberty WAIC and maybe some injectors and a TDO5H, then go eat some WRX's in your RX.
That's my take on it anyway. To each his own. If you want to rice out the RX and compete against Civics in traffic-light stereo comps, then thats up to you.

ok thanks for the advice,
when i get the car this afternoon i will post some more pics
does anyonw know if the rear disk brakes off a wrx are a straight swap onto the rx, that was my only dissapointment that it has a drum rear end, i mean even the vortex has disks on the rear!

tim - i couldnt have said it any better myself.
dont get me wrong spaceage. im no modifications nazi. Im all for improving a car's performance, handling and whatnot. I also believe that most standard cars are buckets of pus, and require some tweaking from the owner's perspective.
I totally 100% agree with tim. Keep it looking nice and clean. You already have the skirts and trimmings, leave the exterior mods at that.
Only modify it where its for a purpose. Slot in some STI struts with springs, and it'll sit nice and handle better. 01 WRX rims would look super sweet. Intake and exhuast mods to make her go a little better, and put in a
reasonable stereo set up. Also slot in some WRX seats if you haven't got them already - trust me, they're great seats!
Anything more than this will attract undue bacon action, and take it from the veterans on this one... it sucks.
Even better - Save your cash for an EJ20T conversion

Gee, l wish l could have afforded something like this when l was 18, listen to the last few posts, the advice is sound, learn to drive it first then worry about the other stuff.

yeh you guys are right, the clear tailights etc are a waste, i still want the clear side indicator lenses because idont like orange on blue and they are only about $30 anyway, then i'll probably just go for exhaust and airfilter,
the exaust won't be too loud just give it a nice note and a bit more power.
K&N do a podfilter kit that includes an airbox etc so it doesn't suck hot air from the engine is it worth getting that kit over just a K&N drop in panel filter???

personally, i'd get the K&N replacement panel filter. works a treat, and prevents any heartache and grief from the constabulary. unless WA police are more relaxed about it all?
One intake mod i DO reccomend is the removal of the snorkus (ie the bizarre intake piping thats in your driver's side (correct location?) inner guard).

that is a very nice car youve got there.
in a couple of years im goin to try and get a wrx, the one thing that i will defenitly be doing is keeping the outside stock, but if i am able to fund what i want to do it, it will help the car go under the radar.
oh yeah and even just driving a stock wrx around with P plates up gets you enough looks from the boys in blue. argh dam those P plates

but it is always good for picking up
