I hacked through the facia concealing the channel in four places and fitted "Pro Racks Tradesman' So far so good. I used tin snips and it was tough cutting.
These are the same racks i had fitted to another cherokee 4wd and took them to the cape.
I had made a flat rack from an old metal based futon. I used some reo to tie it together no welds at all. Everything was clamped and cable tied.
I did see many roof racks on the side of the road on the way to the Cape. My travelling partners had a bet I would not make it to the Wenlock. The rack had no issues (not welded) and completed the trip.
I am presently making one from a redundant bed base, a bit like the futon frame. It is five foot across and six foot six inches long. all will just fit on to Pro Racks (tested) and I am bolting it all together soon.
Cost first time $200 Pro Racks 20% off at Supa Cheap plus a few hours pulling apart futon which was dumped at the back of property and about $50, This time was throwing out bed but keep underpanels and rails for rack, recycled Pro Racks and about $50 in bits and pieces. It also held two Bazookas for tent poles and fishing rods and two 10litres jerry cans in metal holders.
The Jerry can Frame helped secure the tow sections in the centre. Here is a glimpse at the back of Cherokee, wife standing beside "Ant hill"

And yes the same size rack fits my L series, Jerry can holders, bazookas and all.

I went to the wreckers and found a set of 3 gutter mounted tradesmans racks on a hiace. Pulled off the steel bars and swapped them for 40mm alloy box.......looks pretty good. Also got a cheap alloy cage from somewhere and mounted to the back 2 racks and made up a spare wheel carrier to mount between the front two to fit a 27" tyre. Works a treat and looks pretty good to. I'll post a pic if anyone wants it. Cheers

try Sunspares at Yandina Qld.
Last time i was in there ( and thats where i got mine Colour coded to the car too ---that is white), they had quite a number of complete 2nd hand sets. Sold it to me and fitted, at less than 1/2 price of local new prices.
Postage may be a problem but these guys ship stuff all over the place.
