insuring the turbo L series :) :)

Post by steptoe » Wed Sep 26, 2007 9:11 am

I rang my current insurer to enquire of TPPDO policy for the L series GLTA (T for turbo)

First got a girl who could not say Subaru. She asked year model and model, is it a GL or DL. I say it not got any badge on the back (forgot compliance plate says L only) I feed her the info - it is a sedan, it is automatic - she asks if it is 4WD - YES, it is a sedan, auto 4WD. Nobody mentioned t u r b o. No it has no modifications or accessories - it is as it left the factory other than 188,000km later.

$150.05 for a year

has anyone got the turbo question on asking for a policy ?

edit < afterall this was one reason for my first turbo experience to be a no it's not modified when dealing with insurance and rego :)

Problem with insurance companies is the duty of disclosure. They are not obliged to ask you for information, rather you are obliged to give it up. Should you be required to claim, they could deny the claim based on non-disclosure of the turbo.

Then again, the $150 premium could be correct if you happen to live as the sole occupant of a tropical island with no roads...

One problem - be careful, if you haven't been honest with the insurance company - you could be in risk of loosing the claim!

I heard thru my mate who he claimed his car with minimal to make it cheapest but the car had mods - when the inspector came over to inspect the car wasnt matching for what you had at the start, he wasnt covered because of the mods he did.

Cheers

having recently 'lost' a car to thieves - see the avatar picture - i can reccomend shannons.

But as per the advice so far, just beacuse the insurance company does not ask about mods does not mean you do not have to tell them...if in doubt, read the fine print.

These policies are written and re-written by lawyers experienced in risk management. Do the right thing by them, they will look after you.

For example. L series EA82T lifted, modded++, & ICE+, approved by dept road transport, insured for $525 pa (comp) rating one, driver (slightly!) over 30
RS Liberty wagon: stock
Type 3 VW Fast back - awaiting conversion to an electric car...one day
SEAT Cordoba - family car (wasn't won on the New Price Is Right)

I'm 21 and paying around $360 for 3rd party through Shannons. Had several cars with them in the past, and several years of comprehensive classic insurance with them.
