just curious to see differences of alll our combinations of cars, tyres and gearboxes - to see how many revs you are doing at 100 klicks in top gear >> edit<<< I used Roadangel EVO GPS speedo

I have no tacho hooked up to the Brumby so no idea
MV Brumby, 5 speed top 2 are overdrive i think
3.7:1 diffs
195/50-15

MY Lseries 3 speed auto 1:1 top ratio
3.45:1 front diff
175/70-13
- about 3200rpm is that normal ?? combine that with the std boost turbo no wonder it drinks petrol - exact consumption nt measured yet..........next check it is about 3350rpm at 100 kph GPS -if tacho is correct

I was going to point out....most people on here probably aren't actually going 100km/h when their speedo says they are (due to 14" wheels, different tyre profiles etc).
Then I realised that doesn't really matter in this particular discussion because the original question relates to engine revs vs speedo reading in relation to gearbox ratios. Tyre size doesn't effect any of this so the actual speed the car is travelling also doesn't matter =)
I think I understand myself...

I usually sit around 2800rpm @ 100km/h in the brumby. 3.9 5spd, 15" rims, not sure of tyre size.

13" 3.7diff @ 100 is just under 4000, that's the 3psd auto!!! OMG that sux.

The 3.9diff manual @100 is approx 3000, but that's also w the nankangs on 14" rims.

I think mine was 2700, L AWD Manual 3.7, 205/75/15. I know it's spot on 3000rpm at 130kmh

Thats probably your heavy foot!

I was expecting better fuel economy with my turbo motor too, at least better than the carby that preceded it.

But alas i think my love for that lump of toruqe near 3k rpm is what drinks it all up. My economy is worse than with the carby

3.7 ratio. As Andrew T pointed out an indicated 100kmh will always be same engine revs regardless of tyre size, which puts my car at just under 3000, but if tyres are taken into account then my speedo will kiss 2700rpm at a true 100kph.

So whats your tyre size?

My standard 88 L wagon with 3.7 diffs sits at about 3100 at 100km/h... or about 4000 in 4th... and about 3500 revs at 110km/h.

Cheers

3.9 diffs, 225/65/15's 100kmh = 3000rpm exactly.
Speedo perfect, GPS checked.

110 kmh = 3500 + rpmmmmmmmmm (full boost, top gear)
