Not first time I heard it happen, a while ago someone (story from my father) who was on 4WD trip and an landcruiser was stuck in deep mud - was unknown that there was a rock right at the front of the front of the wheel and other 4WD in front was trying to pull it out but end result - snapped and went thru the windscreen & ended up back of other 4WD, the strap was 2 years old he claimed - just the force wasnt designed for that strength... lucky no one was hurt... Dad said you're suppose to place two heavy bags in 1/3 and 3/4 ways in case it snaps and will slow down & drop it down.. dunno if it'll help.
