Thors Myth = Confirmed - Time for a new one

This may be a lot easier to confirm but I was talking to a bloke today that was saying he has beers with a bloke in the Northern suburbs of Brissy that saisy he has a brumby, which he cut in half (down the centre from front to back) and made it a little wider to drop a WRX engine and running gear in (this baffled me a little) and races it out a Willowbank

The bloke was saying the guys sponsored by a Subaru Dealer on the Northside and its sometimes is on show in there - any one heard of this Ute - I was thinking it's gotta be someone here and if so - can I have a bo peep at some pics.

Cheers

Reg

that was the evolutionary process of the sigma to magna!

There is a chassis modification workshop around the corner from me who did some work on my old brumby - the guy said he quoted a job years back essentially doing the same work but only for the front end - was going to be a hill climber, so the extra track at the front end didn't matter so much

Suppose anything is possiable with enough $$$ / skill / blood sweat and i reckon just a few tears on a job like that

I can sure think of a lot easier ways to fit WRX running gear in a Brumby than widening the whole car.

Sorry Fats, but that is not enough evidence for me to be convinced.

I am not saying that this chopped and fattened Brumby does not exist - time will tell, oh and then i would like some (decent) pictures of it.

What I can say is that I am aware that there is a FULLY worked WRX Brumby in Brisbane – they do not come much more insane, trust me.

This is NOT a new conversion. EJ Dash/wiring/Engine conversion and many bits were done by The Subaru Shop (now known as Boxer Service). I do not have any pictures of it to host however if your REALLY interested there are several pictures of it at Boxer Service in their photo album (on the counter). If any of the old crew ever went there you may recall they had a EJ20T engine on display for quite some time on a small welded frame, on dolly wheels in the corner – this was the engine for the transplant.

Can not remember the year model of the Brumby however its running Sti Forrister engine and running gear (he went this option as its had a different compression and gearing ratio to the WRX Sti) and it was this that was going to be more suited to his needs. It also received a reprogrammed ECU with rally anti-lag - dam I can still remember the sound (droooool), as well as all the obvious - opened up at both ends with after market gear ends so she breaths - KnN pod, BOV and 3” stainless zort I think.

Its got a fully welded internal roll cage (professionally done so its CAMS approved) and yes space is an issues so there is no room for big heads.

Its sits massive low so the guards we pumped out almost 2” (a huge job in itself) and rides on some seriously funky, fully adjustable (and I mean fully adjustable) suspension from Possum Borne Motor Sport. Traction is attempted via some 195/50/15 (Yoko’s the last I saw it) wrapped around some 15” Superlite/Speedy/what ever they are called now rims, and I think it also some custom sway bar action as well.

I should also add that it also stops hard due to the cross drilled and rotored brake disc transplant and racing brake pads.

Umm what else… the thing goes like a jet (can break traction in 3rd in the dry on asphalt) and handles UNBELIEVABLY well on-road and track due to the amount of suspension adjustment (note it would be considered a hard/firm ride as far as on road characteristics go - its just that I like that in my road car).

If you ever see him the blokes goes by the name of Mark (cause that’s his name) and he resides in the Pine Rivers area. He will ALWAYS talk to people about the car, the only issues is if you spot him in it getting him to stop can be a problem.

He used to also be a common site at track days and auto cross comp's out at Willowbank, however as you all know its been quite some time since I have been there and I am not sure if he still goes there.

I can tell you now he also owned a 99 WRX (I think that was the year model) and its collecting dust. Last I spoke to him he stated that he would often not drive it (still only has a few hundred km’s on the dial at the most) as it is not as much fun as the Brumby.

Final note FYI - he will NOT sell this Brumby, $ are not the issues its just like an extention of himself. He talks about dying and then being berried with it. Should it ever be for sale (and it will not – trust me) I’ll post some picture’s of it as I have first offer on it ;-) LOL

No seriously I do ;-)

Yeah most of that is true.
The front struts are Proflex.
Mark sold his 2000 model Wrx cause he never drove it. And he probably needed the money.
That particular ute has not been widened. How do I know?
I've driven it.
Hard.
At Willowbank.
It's a whole lot of fun.
