Should I sell the brumby, or do an EJ conversion???

Post by Jack » Fri Nov 16, 2007 3:14 pm

I'm undecided whether to sell the Brumby, or put it into the BYB workshop and get an EJ AWD conversion done.

The Brumby has a 2" lift, off-road rubber, canopy, etc, etc but it's now done over 350,000km and some components are getting tired - something not unexpected for an 18 year old vehicle.

If I sell, I'd probably buy a Gen I or II Liberty sedan and use it as a general runabout vehicle.

Any tips out there on the pro's and con's of either option?

Doing that means you lose an off roader and a cool looking general use Brumby! and gaining a simple general use vehicle which has very little offroad ability...

i wouldnt sell it, whats the point. you have a tough old car that your not scared to break. Get dave to drop an EJ22 in it and it will be good as new.

keep the outback as your tourer (its way too pretty to bash!!)

Let me EJ it but not a 22, go for the little 2 litre. :D AWD box and a 5 stud conversion. Then use it as your run around.

Any reason why not the 22? Is it cos its an older engine or that its bigger and not needed for his uses?

Cheers

Asking that question in a forum full of conversion/modification nuts is bound to have a result wildly slanted to one side :) Maybe that was your plan....you know you want to....

Price depends a lot on what you supply, we supply and what sort of EJ combination you want in there.

As a rough guide a front cut will cost any where from $2500 for base model legacy, to $2800 for base wrx up to $6500 for late model sti. 5 stud conversion will be approx $1250 fitted including every thing. Exhaust you choose is also a governing factor on price. A base system costs about $250 for 2.5" crush bend up to $800 for a mandrel 3".

Other costs include panel work/paint to sub-frame, fuel lines, fuel pump, oils, filters, hoses, power steer conversion or not, air con or not, labour etc.

Best bet is to work out what your budget is and we can build to suit. Or if budget isn't the governing factor, work out what you want in relation to motor, power and braking and we can work out a price from that.

that sounds like the way to go, just let Brett have it for a while and it will come back much better then a new Brumby, and be ready to go were ever you wont to go.

Lots of mucking around tho... yeah you will get more power.. it would be 2.35 litre not 2.2 with 2.5 rods etc
