hows that for an idea? if we organise it well in advance everyone should be able to pencil it in to their schedule and fit it in with work commitments... obviously we'd meet somewhere in the middle...

well those with reliable cars shouldn't have too much of a problem...

Cars is also a good point but I was trying to hint at the indecisiveness’ of some members when it comes down to pinning dates.

thats easy, we set a date in concrete, no chopping and changing, its far enough away to work round it i think

Give me a 12 month in advance date and someone will still **** it up for me in the last couple of weeks...

All that traveling would want to be for more than a BBQ. Camp maybe for like 3 nights.

we would be interested in this , one factor would be the time of the year , October would be DAHM!!!!!!!!! hot , perhaps you could think about july and see what people thoughts would be , bearing this in mind it may have to be in 2009 as 7 months may be a bit harder to organize ourselves in that ammount of time .
Most people ,no matter where they are from would need about 2 to 3 days to get there, so we would want about 10 days for the event from home and back .
They are just a few thoughts for you Jay , I think you have a great idea in the wings there , count us in.

I have thought a bit more about this and i recon i would want to do this too.

Couldn't wait till 2009 though... 2008 i would want to do it.
Ayres Rock as a location wouldn't be bad either.

I agree Dave , I would most likely have no trouble geting the time of for next year , I would however have reservations about it being in late October , there aint no beach out there to cool of in :)

... the "rock" is a bit over-rated (and very busy in terrorist season...) If you really wanted central you could do Alice Springs but then trek out to Lambert's Centre of Australia - a small camp area, and monument located in the "centre" of Australia...

Well, it's the "centre" if you hung Australia up by a bit of string and waited for it to flatten out... except they forgot when doing it to include some of the larger islands - like Fraser... so it's a bit flawed.

Another good spot would be Dalhousie Springs on the edge of the Simpson - been there many times, used to take tag-a-longs across the desert. Maybe even a side trip/camp from there out into a bit of the Simpson. Most Subies would sh1t it in...

Cheers

yeah wherever in the middle is okay, ive been to and climbed ayers rock before, somewhere more secluded and less busy would be good... Nice camp fire in the middle of nowhere would be awesome.

We are already going out to Ayres Rock in early June 2008. Finke will be happening on the first week end in June. So that will be our holiday next year.
