Insurance - Lifted Cars

Is anyone getting a decent deal on insuring their lifted car?
I currently have full comp on my lib with AAMI. my insured value has dropped this year from 8000 to 6000, yet the premium has now gone up to $607.
Its a joke, $607 to insure a $6000 car.
Budget direct wont touch me as soon as you mention the word modified.
Shannons come in at $650 for an 8000 agreed value.
RACQ wont touch modified cars.
What are all you guys doing with your lifted rigs? I am considering going back to fire and theft, if i crash the thing I can pick up a good shell for 1000 and rebuild from there...
The most annoying part is my parents insure their brand new navara worth 40K for $400 / year. new for old replacement and everything.

I had my RX with RACQ. Told them about the lift, exhaust and said it had mags and they were fine with it. They wouldn't touch the liberty because of the turbo conversion.

I feel sorry for ya mate.
When I first got my stock standard L, I was 19, on my p's, male, pretty much the worst combination.
It was $1,300 a year for comprehensive insurance to cover a car worth just over double that, and then the excess was around 1.1 grand. I said F that to them, could crash it with 3rd party, and pretty much buy a new one for the insurance they wanted EACH YEAR

You're complaining about six hundred bucks? When I got my first car (stock '84 Touring Wagon) I was quoted over two grand! When I got my Outback, and I was a little bit older, I managed to get it down to 1500 at one place - then next lowest being 1800ish.
Of course that was NSW.
Anyway, I can't help you with insurance prices. I only have the basic 3rd party at the moment, and it'll probably stay that way untill I'm at least 30.

I'm with AAMI and it cost me $341 a year and it's covered for $5.800. I only paid $4.700 for the car and I am a AAMI lifetime rating one Driver.

Hmmmmm,
watch A#*% (and others) if you actually like your car and value the quality of repair - your pa premium is not indicitive of the 'true' cost, if indeed you CAN access your insurance.
Pay more pa - worth should if/when you need it.
Indugle me for a mo...
Do you have choice of repairer? Or would you be happy with the damage on your loved sube captured as a jpeg file and emailed to every crash repairer on 'their' books, with the LOWEST quote winning?
All while you enjoy the 'free' taxi from their easy to find asessment centre?
More expensive cars (Mercs, BMWs etc) used to be placed on a tray top and driven around seeking the cheapest quote
THE number question 4WDwers have to ask yourselves, am i covered off road?? When you ring up and the telephonist on $12 / hr + commission and he/she says "yes"...stop and consider.
Now sports fans, define for me 'off road' - read the fine print of your policy.
Are you covered on a marked track / roads only - what if you are on a beach with NO markings - are you covered? What if your car needs to be recovered from an unmarked shortcut between two marked tracks?
And this is B4 mods!
Insurance is purely a risk based industry - min the risks (and payouts) = increased profits.
My advice?
1. Write to your insurance company, and ask the following question to be answered in writing, on letterhead.
"am I covered on umarked tracks / roads?"
2. choice of repairer - do you value this relationship?
3. disclosure. disclosure. disclosure. Write to them, advising them of every mod, update as you do, and ask for acknowlegement IN WRITING.
4. Shannons...only way to go (but still ask the Qs...)
5. <30 years of age - bad luck!!
6. Think about extra cover form camping equipment.
Just trust me on this advice. I do not work for Shannons!

mate i am with racq for both cars and they know all the mods that have been done to the l seriesand they were happy to insure me after aami wiped me when i told them that i had a lift kit put in the l series.
i am a rating 1 for life $400 excess and the l series is even covered for off road damage
as for a jpeg being sent to all repaires hahaha i get snapshots sent here without my knowledge for the littlist thing for the enjoyment, laughter and ribbing of my peers

not the actual sending of the images, but to properly quote a job you need to see the car...by quoting from photos or video footage, quotes are often inaccurate. By inaccurate they are mostly under = poorer result for you.
My advice is make sure the mods are listed on your policy document and you are covered for 'off road'

Another thing... blame to local car thefts or high rating of car accidents in area which would explain why insurance would be higher than what it should... that is another thing. My car is registered and insured at my parents house because its $500 cheaper to do so...

After a claim, the first thing any insurance company will do is look for an out...that is, false infromation or the technical term 'failure to disclose'. READ YOUR FINE PRINT - it will state it is up to the customer to inform the company of all mods, deatils, drivers, traffic offences etc etc
failure to do so may void your policy - does not matter you have paid up policy in full - it is your responsability to disclose.
The thing is with small claims like subies, unless audited, you may well get away with it - unless a third party is involved. So hit a 325i with your 6 inch lifted EJed 82 brumby that has not been complicanced, nor declared, and see how you go

I've got 2 brumbies and wife has a daihatsu sirion. We only pay third party on each of them..less hassles but probably doesn't suit everyone..
