took the lib over the pits today....

yeah took the liberty over the pits today to see what needed doing to get it registered in WA. i was extremely surprised by their system of checking the vehicle. i pulled up, popped the bonnet, they took vin # and eng number, had a QUICK look (never saw the loose top mount or BOV!!!) then drove it over their inspection pic, they got me to wiggle the wheel left to right for a while, just the slack in the wheel, not lock to lock, they checked lights/brakes/indicators and that was it...

came out with a list that involves

fitting an immobiliser
clean and rectify oil leaks (motor and trans)
replace drivers seat belt.

he suggested that i get it running right before next time and they're going to give me a permit for the lift kit...

so they didn't mention the complete lack of rear interior, the brake lines cable tied to the struts, the rear discs that probably need machining and new pads.

have to say im suprised at their lack of thoroughness but also pleased. got it booked in at allstar garage for dyno and tune, oil leaks and water pump fix not this week but the next

oh they jacked the front up and then had a quick look and lowered it... not sure what he was looking at, there were no issues about different engine capacities.... 2 hour wait (with booking) for a 5 min inspection and test drive.

I spose when it comes down to it they may have looked upon it as "road worthy ness" not a lets see how from from factory it is.

Thats lucky Jay. I think all that work we did really payed off. We pretty much had the engine bay looking factory. Good stuff.

Let me know what level of imobilser/alarm you want to go with and i will hook u up.

Yeah they don't do a good job here, they often miss a lot of things while being inspected I had un-roadworthy car but got pass marks, the RWC certificate was fake, there was a lot of things wrong with the Commodore I was selling to someone which was passed. I was just happy with the results as saved me heaps of $$

why do you need an immobiliser? whats that all about

yeah happy with the results....

water pump seal shat itself on the way back, oil leaks progressively got worse on the way back too. was limited to 110km if i wanted the air con on, otherwise too much strain on the engine with the coolant leak and she overheated...

the only form of back seats is the bench part, top part was not from matching car and didn't lock into position properly so i ripped it all out. most plastic linings in the back was either cracked/loose/missing so ripped that out too.

took off the spotties to save re-wiring time and ripped out the uhf and ariel to get it looked at see why its not transmitting/receiving

wouldn't mind going for a decent alarm that we can hook up to the central locking dave. not going to have any spare time within the next 3 weeks though.

im just gonna drop the sump off the box and re seal with high temp gasket goo, change the oil while im doing it.

getting some form of vibration/knock from the back end, yet to inspect but it didnt seem to bother the dude at the pits.

took it over warwick pits

WA laws... every vehicle is required to have one. not allowed to sell a vehicle without it

All cars in WA must have an immobiliser... I learned that when i was in WA, sorta glad its not in over here - just another expense for me atm...

And Jay, congrats! You must be pretty happy with that. I'd love to know if Vicroads can give you a permit for the lift kit and that'd be it.

Good luck with the tidy up and interior fit that i've read you'll be doing.

Cheers

yeh good result, maybe i shoulda gone there when i had a sticky. i did swing past there on my way home from work , there was only 2 cars there. this seemed bad to me as they would have more time to catchya out on the niggly bits, rather than pump the cars through. so u were lucky!
cant wait to see the orange thing in its prime!
