Brumby Headlights Mystery

I was driving home last night and when I switched from High (driving lights on) on to low Beam, the low beam lights went out. %&#%@#$$. They came back on after switching the stalk up and down a few times as I pulled off the road. The truck going the over way must have been amused.
Suspect a relay. My question is, there is a bank of 3 relays near the ignition coil. One clicks when the lights come on which I thought would. But, when the wiring plug is removed the lights still operate as normal. High/low with d/lights on or off. I cant replicate the fault in the shed and dont want to find out again on the road. Any ideas please. The d/lights are on a seperate relay.

the problem will be with the contacts in the the steering column stalk some times they need a clean with contact cleaner or a nail file

the headlight relays if you have them are normally under the dash next to the fuse box

the three relays near the ignition coil are to do with your aircon
