Eww why would you do it! Downgrade a perfectly good injected engine :/
Getting a loom cut down to run the engine in standard form in an old car isn't a huge problem these days.

The simple version has to be concidered for a specific application.
I am doing a very similar thing, in the Jetboat.
A Weber and an electronic distributor is as complex as it needs to be.
It's the last spot you would want an ECU.
Horses for courses.
It is nice to know that it can be done on a simple level- with a late model motor.

Tig welding a 32/36 to the inlet, same as they seem to have done.\Suparoo wrote:So did you find a carby EJ, or are you customising an efi one?
The distributor is from a Fiori, ford stuff does work, I am sure there are others.
an offeset drive on any 4 cyl. one would work.
Steve @ rising sun put me onto this ages ago, I had it driving my lpg EJ22.
Waiting for the boat for a while now.

Jaffa / Blackmale could be buying a MY sedan shorly that has an ej18 carby motor in it. Very interesting little motor... his one obviously used to be EFI and was converted carb later.

Did factory carbs have the injector bosses on the intake manifold? The one in the pic above looks like it has injectors.

At least with no ECU you would never get the dirty IAC problems, crappy TPS, VSS trouble and that bloody "safe mode" crap with default fuel maps.

You would need ECU to run the engine for ignition timing and sensors, its not just like these EA82 engines without ECU.Phizinza wrote:At least with no ECU you would never get the dirty IAC problems, crappy TPS, VSS trouble and that bloody "safe mode" crap with default fuel maps.

Dazz on the rear of the drivers side head there is a blanking plate held on with two 10mm bolts.
Under that is an offset drive on the back of the cam.
There is a few distributors which use the same offset.
A hole can be drilled in this plate and an O ring seals the shaft.

With Carby, no sensors needed to run (only needed for legal reason that I could imagine.)AlpineRaven wrote:You would need ECU to run the engine for ignition timing and sensors, its not just like these EA82 engines without ECU.

Ignition timing? Did you see all the talk on distributors and pictures?
I'm on UltimateSubaru and have read a few stories about carbed EJ's. All running carbs because they didn't want an ECU for what ever reason. Theres even a video on youtube of a guys EJ in a Brat running with a weber.
