Very new here but I need your help.

We live lower Eyre Peninsula South Aust. We are killing an EA Falcon wagon and need to improve our reliability and image, therefore like the looks of '02 onwards Outbacks but want to know about reliability on sealed road touring and also dirt road driving are they all theyre cracked up to be.
Dont need anything fancy prefer the 2.5 motor but the fuel does seem on the heavy side or ( dare I say it here) should I be looking at something else.

02 outbacks are gen3 so a late 98 on are the same.Gen3 oct98-03.
Things to look for :some had weeping headgaskets,external leak most would of been replaced by now.If its a auto torque bind in the g/box,to test do tight turns ,figure 8's slowly and listen& feel for a vibration.This can usaully be fixed by a trans fluid change but can sometimes it's a duty solnoid,that will normally cause the power light on the dash to flash.
Overal a pretty good unit and prettty good on fuel.On road very comfortable plenty of power.Offroad have a look here http://offroadsubarus.com/index.php?opt ... pic&t=3134
Its a H6 but suspension and capabilities similar.
