so i was changing the oil in my 2001 liberty yesterday, got under the car, had a quick 'check' under there while i was waiting for the oil to drain.

My eye came to the engine crossmember to see big chunks of steel coming off it due to RUST! its abit more than surface rust as well. To the extent where i wouldnt be suprised if holes start to appear soon.

the only thing i can think of is that MAYBE the previous owner had a battery leak or something and this has caused it (as it is on the passenger side of the car)

Anyone seen anything like this before??

Yeah I'd vote for that too. Probably nothing to worry about, soak it in rust converter then fish-oil I'd say. Probably a good idea to have a look at the actual body work and see if it's coming through somewhere non-replaceable tho.
