Yeh Jonno thought that myself. its a good read and reference for my conversion. Noticed the thermostat housing pointing out the front. Reverse the top of that housing and an EA81 lower radiator hose fits nicely going over the manifold and points towards my 30mm SSteel tubes that go to the radiator up front. and will look more tidy.
I took my valve covers to a place for chroming today $130 EACH!!! think a can of black paint from the $2 shop will suffice lol

Tweety's paint theme is safety yellow and black. My engine builder said the head studs and nuts etc will be black (expensive ones dont know the name of them). Against the yellow will look nice. So need black on the valve covers me thinks. Yellow covers and pulleys. yuk!

Besides Rosie our Foxy doesnt like too much Yellow...

I think you need a set of chromed rocker covers... but that's me and it's not my money! My thoughts are that the black and chrome will relate better to Tweety than just a black set of covers - could be that "one up" detail that people actually notice.
I couldn't find any chromed rocker covers on US ebay
Cheers

O2 sensor?
Tweety's SPFI conversion to be commenced in the near future. Tweety has a unique one off exhaust system. The pipes exit the exhaust manifold to go about 400mm to where the two pipes have a conencting pipe. The indiviaual pipes the each go to a good muffler then a U-turn single pipe then to two pipes each side.
Can we place the O2 sensor inside one of these pipes, presumable near the U-turn after the muffler.? or does anyone know the best location?

Geez, shot me down there
. Im doing Black with red covers and pullies....only to cover it up with a bonnet
.
O2 sensor, hmmm how far is it to the joint in the pipes from the cylinder heads? and how far away was it on the stock setup. You'd be surprised at how slowly an o2 sensor responds
. Best bet would be to match the original. If it was anything like the mpfi you looking at around 15-20 inch's downstream. I wouldn't be too worried about it ending up in only one side of the head. Should be fine for a narrow band o2. Just my thoughts though, someone may know better.
Regards
Doug

The later EA81 was optioned with cast iron exhaust port extenders both sides that fitted between head and exhaust pipe flange. Think dizzy side had nought holes or pourpoise, was the heater side that had maybe not exhaust gas recirculation stuff - maybe it was for the odd reed valve dump extra air in the exhaust thing. Anyway, if you found one, may find the thread in it is same as spark plug and O2 sensor...just thinking out loud - please excuse if it is all BS h?
I had those adapters on my late model Brumby, till I swapped the motor, other motor did not have them and the exhaust studs were in the opposite positions.
There was an air bleed pipe coming in on the LHS, cannot remember the thread. It could be adapted to an oxy sensor if required.
This would only give you single side readings, the OEM computer is designed for all four exhaust readings, what difference that will make???, probably none as long as all everything is working correctly.
Neat and simple.

Interesting guys. As my trike didnt need anti pollution gear I chucked a lot of stuff from the engine on conversion. And that pipe on the Alt side of the exhaust was plugged about 100mm from the exh manifold. Will look into using that for the O2 sensor.
I noticed today that the MAF sensor is in its position on the snorkel. But there is no loom from it. On pics on the net I see the loom goes directly to the inner guard somewhere, not to the harness behind the TB. I need to know where the 3 wires go to from the MAF.

Yes thats the MAF
Im wondering if you have the documents on this page
http://jdmfsm.info/Auto/Japan/Subaru/--Old%20Models--/
brumbys never had an O2 sensor (in Australia) but if they did it would have been on the front of the cat if you put a bung on the first join of your exhaust system, where the 2 engine pipes combine it will work.

Yes Toonga a bung before the cross over connecting pipe would be the spot I agree. About 300mm from the exh manifold outlet.. Could run the wire up to the oil sender clip and under the manifold. Read how some eCU's blow up because the O2 wire shorts out. So has to be insulated well. EBAY have O2 sensors for $45 single wire type as this is.
And do you know where the wire for the MAF come from? have put a thread on the USMB for this. the Americans are more familiar eh lol

Tweety do you have this document http://jdmfsm.info/Auto/Japan/Subaru/-- ... ection.pdf
from that subaru server
It has schematics for the SPFI system and plenty of information on the set up process, even the wiring for the AFM or MAF
PS that looks to be a hotwire AFM not a flapper MAF
