yeh Joel you're right but I was going on memory and it failed me. :???:

Went for a ride this morning. The kick down still needs more adjustment. so held it in gear till 60 kph then into 2nd and whoooh! the front wheel of the trike had this urge to lift. Not before ever had that feeling. Up to 100kph in second and into 3rd. Definately more mid range power there. The second throat is working as it should but I dont actually feel it opening as I accelerate. Should I? Feels now the 135 main in the secondary throat is too low now but will let the experts touch it now.

And no exhaust wouldnt help tuning.

Bare in mind the jets and timing are guess work I'm impressed and happy with the conversion. exhaust soon.

That's what I was hoping for.

Now I'm hoping that you get a good exhaust guy that sorts out some tamed subi beat to give your trike a real difference to the rest of them!

All the best mate!

Bad steptoe!!

"T" meaning turbo? yikes.

Us over 50's have mellowed. I was able to do this conversion for only a few reasons

Previous experience with Lotus engines (but I still knew jack sh..!)
It is simple but the 5 or 6 wires to connect nearly got the better of me!
the forum was of great help.

to think of a turbo on that type 3 auto....plumbing, more wires, cant see the engine....wouldnt suit my relaxation needs...

In country Vic like all rural area you sometimes see an old man in a gypsy carriage being towed around the country by horse. Twenty years from now I'll be a modern version and you might meet up with me and ask "how's that ea81 going"? After I spit on the sunburnt ground "yeh, still runnin'". "Got a spare set of EA71 pistons and a gasket kit in the caravan just in case but she just keeps goin'".

Then you look closer at the donk and see in small letters.....turbo...that cunning old buggar!!!

Rode Tweety to Shepparton this morning 75 kms. I'm impressed with the ease it gets to 100kph. This cutting out still occurs though and that tuning issue will get fixed at a dyno. It only occurs when you open it up and not all the time.

At the end of the ride- no leaks, starts up immediately, is sooo smooth and has that little extra I dreamed of.

Exhaust will take 2 weeks, custom job when they have spare time.

Sorry Toonga the next time I will see the trike will be when they want me to drop in for an inspection on the exhaust.

I've drawn the design on some old pics with the vw engine-

Image

So essentially the exhaust will exit the heads reaerward, balance pipe to go over towbar and protection bar, u-turn to good muffler, u-turn to small "Y" pipe then twin upswept tail pipes each side to horizontal tips. Tips to be just above wheel guards but to clear the roof when it swings back for engine access.

Image

Going to see if I can get the twin pipes detachable so can send them off to get chromed. havent made up my mind yet on that. Ideally if the exhaust was heat powdercoated black and the twin pipes each side we chrome but cost is the question.

Awesome! Anyone snap a neck to find where all the noise was coming from?

2 WEEKS?!! You'll be crawling the walls by then! I bet you're saying to yourself "It better be bloody worth it".

Subi beat, here we come. If not I should be able to sort you out with a recording ;)

Debbie followed me in the i30. She didnt see any whiplash! Any neck soreness was from me cause I was avoiding the ...well you know. (they read these sites you know...)

The exhaust guy I had lined up pulled out when he saw the work needed. So midland muffler go the job. A fabricator and keen as mustard manager were sold on the concept when I tiold them they can take photos upon finishing and use it as promotion. But I wanted to leave it there so had to fit it in their workload when its quiet. fine by me.

Fancy a ride Bennie? when its home- no probs. I'll be in the back seat so neither of the rear wheels lift on long sweepers!!!! I know your capabilities....;)

Bugger about the first guy! But it sounds like you've found a good place to leave her with!

you and me both Toonga.

See because of the need shortly of a noise level test (for engineer) and besides I like a reasonably quiet exhaust. I left it to the exhaust guys to choose the muffler and they tole me these were the quietest of the several they tried on the ends of those straight out pipes.

Which suits me fine. AND it should breath ok too.

So me thinks a 20 second video is warranted before I get serious witha youtube video.

My vision of a Youtube video has been (I'm sharing my fanatsies now!)... background music "brothers in arms" by dire straits, 20 seconds of the trike being ridden without screens and roof eg stock (I have that film already)....night time film of wleding flashes in my garage....then trike is slowly reversed out of garage in transformed state being ridden on a (private) dirt road with drift around a corner then tar road with autumn leaves being scattered as it is wound up to a nice speed. Then at the end it is parked next to the van and river......oh yeh!

Video in a short time. bit busy but WILL be done! Exhaust is quiet with a nice rumble and ohhh so smooth...

Exhaust is now finished. Got it home. Engine got hot today and it is a cool day so an issue there. But riding up the small mountain near home....usually at 70kph flat out in 2nd gear in the VW 1916 I cruised up there without using the second throat on the weber carb at 90 kph. says it all? The weber needs jet tuning as cuts out when second throat wants to come in.
