Put me down as a "keen participant"... It'll really depend on time off from teaching - could be a good year to do some emergency teaching...

I was watching some Cape trip DVD's the other day with my dad. I forget the guys names but they took a caravan up there, TWICE!
Was the funniest and scariest thing I have ever seen but it made me wanna go up there!
We would have to do a lot of work to the lib before going though. Lift kit, snorkel, new engine...... :D hahaha

We could be keen but all depends on work.

what a day

Post by wrxtc » Sun Sep 28, 2008 8:06 pm

hm dibs and me been outside this morning talkin what we are gonna do number one is what we need to take and where its all gonna go .

ive done the trip several times but always was in a nissan patrol plus had a trailer or boat behind to carry stuff in , had kids then too now this will be the first time without kiddies im realy lookin forward to this one, its so hard travelling with kiddies.

so they have left the next plus dibs has not done it before so that will be like taking one big kid anyway cos his eyes are gonna light up , people been talkin to him that have been and said they always put it off as were busy then went and now they go every year .

anyone thought of a good time of year yet , we always used to go in june cos that way you got away for a few weeks of winter here in cold qld and the weather was perfect further north.
also september is not too bad either .anyway waiting patiently as you can tell on a month date etc. lol ??????

Ok time to get a bit more organized.

Dates I was thinking is -> Sunday 5th of September 2010. Returning around Saturday the 25th September 2010.

This is just starting point the date can still be changed.

Meeting point for convoy travel -> The Big Fish Servo. I like to leave early & drive mornings so I was thinking of making the meeting time 4am & stop at Gympie for breakfast?

I was thinking of making the first day’s destination Rockhampton that's about 8Hrs drive?
The second day Townsville -> we can spend a day here if we want to.
The third day Cairns -> again we can spend a few day here - I would like to do a few tourist things here. http://www.skyrail.com.au/ a few things like that.

It’s about 1600Kms to cairns give or take a few Kms.

On the way further north I would like to drop in to Port Douglas & Mossman Gorge -> http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/projects/park ... parkid=163
And then try to make Cooktown the same day if not Bloomfield.

Did we want to go through Lakefield national park?

From this point forward its camp how ever far we travel no set destination for each day.

This is just a basic outline for this trip, Times / dates / destinations can be changed & we can add more tourist things to do if anybody has good destinations to go to.

I am budgeting around $2.50 per/L for fuel as an average cost.

As we get more organized we will have to have a meeting to discuss better details / Setups / Accommodation / Car maintenance.

Also what sort of terrain will be covered?
I'm guessing bash plates and bullbars would be recommended, and some decent ATs.
Would there be any "difficult" tracks or sections of the roads that would require reduction gearing (dual range). Or is most of it highway cruising?
Just tossing about some ideas for a new car build up.
Damn i get excited easy.

It will be fairly extreme terrain, AT's or MT's will be required, something with a good side wall. Low range may be required, but if you were to have an auto I think it would be ok. There will be high way cruising till we hit Cairns / Cooktown. The rest will be a mix.

The last major city center is Cairns. There is a Supercheap there if you need.

I wonder if the Tazzie boys would be better working on servicing in Brisbane, both ways?
