fraser island
fraser island
Has anyone done fraser in a forester. Im contemplating it. Would install a lift and snorkel. Any thoughts or tips
Ive done Moreton a few times in an L series. Without a serious suspension lift, and LSD/locker of some sort it can be fun on the inland roads where the big 4x4's and tour trucks dig massive ruts. Mid day the sand can be very hot and thus slippery too.
If your well equipped, keep a level head when you do get bogged and try to stick to the wetter sand any Subaru will be fine. On the islands its the ruts that are the killer, would test any standard height 4x4.
Don't mean to sounds doom and gloom, It so much fun! But be prepared as you can.

if you are an experienced beach driver you will be fine.
snorkel is not necessary at all. If you are in that much water you have done something seriously wrong.
extra ground clearance and low tyre pressures will get you through most areas along with plenty of right foot.
if you are travelling alone carry a set of maxtrax or similar so you can get yourself out of trouble.
