up for a day or 2 day drive anyone??

Post by esray71 » Wed Dec 19, 2007 6:13 pm

Me and my old 94mdl wagon is up for a day or 2 away sometime over the next 2 weeks, could even turn into a 3 day drive?. I haven't had the old thing for long and i'd like to do some exploring and find as many gravel roads or dirt tracks. I've done a lot of touring on dual purpose bikes and have found some great places to go. So if anyone is interested please let me know. If anyone know of some great roads or tracks then please let us know!;)

Hey mate where are you in vic. If you want I could probably squeeze in a two or three day drive. One place I know well and there is plenty of fun to be had is wombat state forest. Let us know as I should be up for it.
cheers kris

I'm living in Doveton, S.E Suburbs of Melb. I don't know much about the Wombat Sate Forest, what's the condition of the roads or tracks? My old thing is pretty much standard also i don't want to push the thing too hard at the moment but yes i'm up for some fun !!! I'm new to the subaru world and i'm interested in places that have some fun tracks or hills, some nice scenery would be ok too. I don't mind getting a place to stay at a pub o/nite or even camp out with a few beers and bbq. I finish work Fri 21st and go back to work on the Mon 7 Jan, So i have plenty of time but would rather go after xmas and b4 new yrs or even between Dec 22nd and 24th?.....is that good for anyone else???

Hey guys
Wombat Forest has the best of everything just some nice easy dirt roads tio cruise along. It has plenty bog holes to play in and hills to have fun on. I went with the suby club a couple of weeks ago and they had an absolute ball. That trip included two standard foresters.
With regards to the date either between Christmas and new years or this weekend you guys pick one and let me know.
Cheers kris

Yeah it sh•tted me out...it was 845pm when it happened and I didn't know what to do because it was approx 2 kms nearest road and the track was very muddy to walk on, only place was railway line, one second I was thinking about flagging down another 4WD to help me out but i ended up getting out - lucky! but gee so much much mud under the Liberty even sump guard!! It was a lesson for me to learn as I under-estimate of how deep/soft it was - the last time I went there it wasn't as bad but this time someone must've made worse before me!

Here is two pics from my mobile phone (should have my camera with me but left it at home)...

Nah but thanks anyway. The car is now mobile and i watch the temp gauge more than my speed. We went 4wdin to this dam in benders that's tops for a swim. I sh!t myself - the temp gauge got to 121 degrees (taken from a heater hose line - aftermarket job). I had to keep the car moving as there was no use stopping. I only have 1 thermo fan in operation atm which isn't helping. The car handled it well and there appears to be no damage.

It was great getting out off road again, i'm so addicted to 4wd'n and this site its not funny.

I hope to be pulling down the MPFI tomorrow arvo, if not it will probabily be next weekend with any luck. I'm expecting cracked heads and maybe recoils the the block that have started to move. The recoils will be the biggest problem - I'm thinking of drilling larger holes and using a thicker stud bolt for the heads like the EA81 has. This way the thread in the block will only be used once to put the studs in.

Hope its not as bad as it seems but the engine got pretty hot. Just worried that all the new stuff thats gone into it is wrecked - rings and honed cylinders (cylinders may have warped and new piston heads done the same).

The Carbie engine is going well for now, a lot smoother (guessing it means less power...).

End hijack.

Hey Alpine where is that track next lot of rain I would love to rip it up. Is it near werribee somewhere. You guys really need to lose the street tyres. Go the muddies heaps more fun.
