Off Topic - Phone line rental..

Post by AlpineRaven » Thu Oct 09, 2008 9:18 pm

G'day,
I got a bill today from USTEL and spewing (always do when I get it) that we have to pay $29.95 just for line rental, which we do not use land line phone, always uses mobiles due the caps we're on, Is there an phone carrier that doesn't have a large amount of rental? I just need the phone line for ADSL internet.

Who are you with and how much?
Cheers

When I got VOIP a while back the cheapest line rental I could find was Telstra for $20.95/month. Some of the bigger ISPs like iinet and maybe Dodo also sell phone services, which can work out good value if you bundle with your ADSL plan.

check out iinets website, theyve got a new feature called naked dsl. It allows you to have adsl and not have a landline. I think other providers are starting to implement it as well.

also use telstra for their cheap line rental only. dont make any calls.

when naked DSL pricing comes down it will be the way to go.

I've gone Naked DSL with Adam Internet in Adelaide. VOIP phone service using a standard phone plugged in through the modem. works fine and we still don't use the home phone much. The bonus is the $30 line rental I'm saving in line rental covers half of the internet cost, and now I've got ADSL2+.
my mates at work are sick of me complaining I "only" get 5-6Mb/s because I'm a fair way from my exchange.
Its not available everywhere, and in Adelaide Adam Internet have sold out in some exchange areas (its their own network).
stuff Telstra........
ps. check out whirlpool.net for broadband options.

Righto... I'm lending to go with Optus for $19.95 a month.. seems to be good enough for this time. I've just enquired with TPG and waiting for more information about it.
