Post by subaruby » Thu Apr 15, 2010 8:29 pm

Anyone keen to organise a snow trip this year ?

Alternatively some suggestions for places to go and when?

Yep. Keen.

Will 90% be working in the snow this winter already. But would be keen for a trip!

Cheers

A lot of the 4wd tracks up in the snowline will be shut from queens birthday to cup day, so maybe it'd be more of a 'high country cruze'? The high country major dirt tracks should be open but still fun driving with snow around the place... maybe something like this (limited by google's map coverage, but heading up through licola, up to the Pinicals and billy goat track, back down to moroka rd into maffra... from there you can go bush toward baw baw and pop out not too far form melbourne)....

Anything below the snow line will be very wet and boggy and so of course there are plenty of options... Thompson river area? Gembrook? I have a few good maps for areas that will be pretty muddy by winter which are close to melbourne, good for day trips I reckon!

With the right set up (lift, muddies or ATs) we should have some pretty good times on our hands if there's enough of us on trips (at least 4 vehicles in winter trips I reckon) then there are definately options!

I'm keen for day trips over the winter as my winter school holidays have been filled up a fair bit already with a 6 day bushwalk around mt. howitt.

What snow trip did you have in mind SubaRuby?

I'd be up for something. May have to hitch a ride if a non-lifted vehicle will be a problem.

A high country cruise would suit me once I know my roster... Ruby's got a set of 23 inch snow boots on her now - courtesy of centre road wreckers after I shelled out a HUGE $60 for 4 tyres on sunnies :D :D

Ok - got a high country 4wd map while I picked up my staff car season pass today. Many option to choose for the trip. Can someone suggest dates as I'll have to check with the boss that I can get them off - I'll be lucky to get two days off in August :(

But I have a map that if I can get a driver for the printer I will scan and hopefully upload to the net for you to see - I've been having trouble uploading stuff to the net unfortunately.

I'll recommend staying at Bennie's camp site :D :D

I've been having fun with coolant not being anti freeze  but that's all sorted now - otherwise I LOVE drifting I mean driving on snow/ice :D :D :D

Cheers

Maybe you can check when Bennie's campsite up the mountain is available and you're able to take the couple days off??

Depending on what I'm up to I'll coming for a bit of frosty fun!

Cheers,
Pedro.

Check out offroadsubarus.com in the planned trips section. Beigewagon's got something going for the 14th of August, buy it'll cost non subi club members $10 for insurance purposes. That won't break the bank.

I'm hoping to make it. Will see closer to the date. Hopefully there will be some snow!

Cheers
