Trip Plan - Wyperfeld/Big Desert Sept holidays
Ok, plan is to hit up the Wyperfeld and Big Desert in the first week of the school holidays.
Dates: Saturday 21st September (arrive) - Saturday 28th September (depart).
Plan will be to meet up on Saturday the 21st - a day to travel and relax when we arrive.
Meet Point: I'm thinking first night's camp would be at our classic - O.T.I.T. Other option would be Snow Drift for a different angle into the area.
If at O.T.I.T. we can take the Northern track with the possibility of that wet weather only track. After this I've got to find my map that's gone AWOL it's been so long
But I have thoughts of heading into Big Desert and hitting up a camp site or two in there - The Gums is one of them. The Boarder Track could be an option depending on time.
Fuel Points: Best to carry at least a Jerry can for this trip, but Fuel is available from Rainbow, Underbool and Murrayville. Rainbow has some weird opening times:
^ Hoping these haven't changed since I was last there in September last year, I'm itching to get out again!
Really I'm keen to just get out there for a week and cruise around - I'm keen to try out some new tracks and am open to suggestions.
Looking forward to this and I'm hoping some "new" members might make it as well as the usual gang
Cheers
Bennie
PS - image works in the preview but wasn't coming up in the thread, hope it works for everyone!

I will make it to one of your Mallee trips eventually. I would rate that area as probably my favourite in Vic. As much as I would love to come, I'll unfortunately be on a 6 week trip touring around in my new Hilux with the ineffective LSD .
Here's a pic of it, as it's been mentioned a couple times now.
I know it's a Toyota, but I'm pretty proud of my efforts in getting a standard car to this stage in my shed in a very short time.
Have fun guys & gals.
Cheers Jake

Trip itinerary:
Day 1: Saturday: travel, arrive and camp at OTIT
Day 2: Sunday: From OTIT head to Snow Drift or Casurina to camp via Wonga Camp
Day 3: Monday: Underbool to refuel, then hit up the fire break tracks to get into Big Desert SF, Camp at Red Gums.
Day 4: Tuesday: Head East deep into the Big Desert SF picking tracks as we go - camp at Big Billy Camp Ground.
Day 5: Wednesday: Fuel up in Murray Ville, then turn around and head south to Chinaman Well Track, Pella Track and Milmed Rock Track to camp at Round Swamp Camp Ground - or just take Milmed Rock Track to write in the Milmed Rock Guest Book
Day 6: Thursday: Head to Western Beach at Lake Albacutya and do the Perra Track West to East, camp at O.T.I.T again.
Day 7: Friday: Decide on where to head next...
Day 8: Saturday: head home from wherever we end up.
Keen to hear other's thoughts on this. I've discussed this with Venom as I was have pre trip envy overload so to speak!
Looking forward to it! Ruby Scoo should have a new setup if all goes well
Cheers

Hey Bennie,
That's quite an itinerary!! I'm keen, but will most likely have to break away either Tuesday or Wednesday arvo to be back at work the following morning - I'm also working the 28-29th weekend.
If I can get the third day off, I might hang around till Wed and head back from the end of Chinaman Well track...
This will be good!!
Pedro.

Good news!El_Freddo wrote:I'm hoping you can get the third day off mate!

I've got the 3 days off!! So I will be there from Saturday when it all starts through to Wednesday arvo...
Ahh, I'll be bringing a mate along in the car... He hasn't seen a lot of Oz and he'll be fresh off the plane so we've got the task of convincing him to get a Subie and become a regular, shouldn't be too hard!
Cheers,
Pedro.

Awesome!
I think that makes 4 now - Venom could still be out depending, but hopefully all goes well and he's there
I'm getting really amped up for this trip - it's been a while coming and this weekend is all about setting the car up for the trip and getting "a few" last things done on Ruby Scoo.
I'll keep my eye on this thread during the week, probably update it next Friday before we had off on the Saturday.
Cheers

Talk about preparations... I was changing my tyres from road to off-road and noticed a shiny little round thing on one of the spares, took it off and who would have thought: it was a screw! Massive air leak, just check the video below:

Really pays off to check your stuff before you hit the road, even more so the off road...
Having said all that, I'm really looking forward to this!!

Bugger...that tyre really looks screwed!
This always goes with me now:
Bushranger Plugga II Tyre Repair Kit | eBay
If you get a tyre repair kit, only get the type with the metal handle. The plastic ones are known for breaking, resulting in the shaft being embedded in your palm under much force!
These are great to get back to civilisation to get your tyre repaired properly, however I have heard of these "temporary" repairs lasting many years.
