Yes believe it or not it looks like the local constabulary have become sick of pulling over the Ford/Holden boyz and aware of the Subaru crew 8O

Basically Sunday mother days cruse, NO 4WDing and I even cleaned the beast. We were cruising around Cott’s when we were pulled over for NO REASON. Anyway bottom line equals canary, what for not enough tread on 1 the 15’s and a cut in the other (from being airborne in Lancelin – not that I informed them of that).

SO what does this mean… have until Friday to remove lil yellow sticker and I am in Albany this week. I have some 13” here and they are on the car now however 2 of em are boarder line call (approx 1mm to wear bar), I have do not know what they will say. Given I have had nothing to do with the inspection dept over here either I have NO idea what to expect, like will they just look at the tires and send me on my way or will they inspect the entire car!?!?!?

So what does this mean… I MAY not be on the Sunday trip if I can not get it through.

Tough break Jaffa :(

They *might* just do a quick inspection of those particular things but more likely they will go over the whole car. But never fear... WA is BY FAR the easiest state to pass a car over the pits. It's amazing what can pass.

You basically just have to make sure things aren't dodgy. In your case Jaffa I would say you would need to do the following...

- Leave the 13" wheels on and buy the cheapest set of re-tread tyres you can.
- Install a new heater core.
- Remove the lift kit.
- Tidy up anything slighly dodgy looking (exposed wiring, missing interior parts - things like that).
- Make sure the brake pedal is firm.
- Make sure all the lights work.
- Oil leaks, who cares - just degrease it half an hour before you go there. (don't know if you have any?)
- Exhaust - does yours still leak abit and rattle on the towbar? Should be pretty cheap to fix those.
- Rear bar....probably best to pop the standard bumper back on, they might give you grief about obscuring the view out the back window and not illuminating the number plate (Unless it does now?).

I can't see it being too much of a drama, and don't worry if you can't make it by the required time - this just means you have to hand in the plates and basically unlicence the car. Doesn't matter because its the same inspection at the pits.
Looks like a good weekend's work - and another half day after the sticker is gone to reinstall the lift kit!

Didn't you have to take the car over the pits soon anyway because of the QLD rego ?

Side note - have you taken the RX Sedan over the pits yet?

Yer i have no idea what they will do being Qld rego, but Andrew you make me LAUGH  ROLF.

You have obviously not been paying to much attention, I’ll have to slap you…
- The 13” are on 2 are new 2 are JUST may legal, spare is good as well just different tread pattern – I’ll let you off this 1.
- Heater core could be an issue – you got me there.
- Tidy up anything slighly dodgy looking (exposed wiring, missing interior parts - things like that) – have you had a look at my car?!?!?!? SLAP!
- Breaks are good – young now family they have to be SLAP!
- Remove lift kit – what for… its only 2” and has an engineered cert SLAP!
- Oil leaks–what the hell!? I do not even know what that is SLAP, SLAP!!!
- Exhaust has some serious bangs in it from ummm, Lunachick 8O and so I am not sure if its leaking – not hitting tailgate any more – has not been for almost 12 months SLAP!
- Rear bar should be ok, however if they fail just on that then original will go back on, plate has been moved - i could let you off on this 1 as well.
- Yer being a Qld rego car I am unsure as to what they will actually be doing. It’s the unlicensed crap I am wanting to avoid as its our only car ATM. As for the Qld rego this state is slack Qld is slack – basically I have been able to say that I am not on a permanent contract with work (which I am still not, although the paperwork is in the mail) and so may return to Qld.

- RX has not gone over the pits as yet… would NOT pass atm. Needs all sorts of bits and bits added (some bog and paint) and removed (split boots, TMIC and BOV) before she will pass.

I know your pain Jaffa. I had a 1600 79 Ford Escort that was stopped in Mooloolaba at 8pm one night - and it had to report to the DOT pits within 30 mins.

The Escort was done for : Oil leak, low tread on the tyres, and a PCV hose not hooked up. I had a week to fix those problems. Easy done.

Never mind the 32/36 Weber that was not ADR27a compliant!

It really depends on the inspector. I suggest you remain very courteous to Mr Inspector ;) Personally I would just make sure common sense things are taken care of.

On the same night, while I was there, a guy in a HZ panelvan was told to go over the pits. He drove onto the pits and off the other side. The inspector asked him why he didnt stop. The guy sheepishly admitted he had no brakes

Thanks Fang (sorry about the lack on contact lately btw) It will work out – it has to. I have had defects on the 15’s before (being 2 sizes larger then factory standard as apposed to 1) however in Qld I just bolt the 13’s on go to the inspection centre pay ya 50 big 1’s, they would look at the notice then the tires and if compliant they would just send me on my way… back home where I would obviously bolt the 15’s back on. I think that WA, as lenient as everyone says they are MIGHT just be different.

I’ll keep you all posted

Sorry to hear about it Jaffa. I don't think your car will have much trouble passing, as the others said throw some good 13"s on it and take her over.

When you go in for your first inspection they'll take a good look at everything and issue a work order. I've not been through this part myself, but nearly all my mates have. You then fix everything on the work order, take it back and they check its been done. Then you're good to go.

As for raising me a Chirp Chirp, as I said on the phone to you this morning, won't be long before I have another piece of cop bait.

Sucks about the Subaru crackdown. Maybe they've been instructed to vary the targets, Commodores and WRX's must get boring.

Yer you should have seen em… ask me to pop the bonnet and all – I have put a WRX scoop on – I think that he was expecting to see TMIC and BOV and all kinds of stuff he could defect however I think that when he saw how clean and empty it was he did not bother – they went over most of the car and the rubber was the only thing that they could fault so we’ll see.

Yeah Jaffa I was unsure about alot of those things - not trying to put your car down or anything but put them in just incase - its annoying having to go back when they get you on things you don't even think of the first time. Specially cause they charge you a small fee each re-visit!

I know you've only got a 2" lift kit but bare in mind....Jonno was told that you aren't allowed ANY kind of lift in a Subaru by the guys at the pits a few months ago. And he knew the blokes too - they still made him take the kit out. You may be lucky though if you produce the engineer cert and stuff.

But exposed wires....stuff like that, I thought ALL us WA guys had that at least! :D :D

so has it been thru yet jaffa?
if not - dont worry about the 2" lift kit it should be fine as long as its raised only 50mm everywhere - and not 75 mm at the front like i found out mine was - but they still let me off as this was the second time back.
apart from that just make sure all electricals are good and no rust underneath, coz they go thru their whole list.
