WA Crew is expanding

Post by BlackMale » Fri Apr 07, 2006 4:14 pm

Crew,

With the lack of trips on in WA recently we have been getting phunky, and we now have a new edition to the family… No not new child we have purchased another RX :D :D

She was Stu1’s Subaru that was in the for sale section – some more details include full RX chequered interior, 3" BYB lift kit, top mount inter cooler, BOV, huge 14" Kumo mud tyres (spare has never seen daylight) as well as a few other little things, as far as I, know that are rear/hard to find Eg. Full adjustable Bilston rear suspension and I think Bilston inserts in the front, its also running a dual range AWD not sure of the ratio at this stage (imported from Japan) with a centre diff lock.

All we have to do now if figure out what to put in the wagon for an even better 4WD rig  and do we keep the RX… my thoughts are put my lowered suspension from my old red RX in for a second road/family car... decision decisions.

We'll keep you posted.

And yet more expansion, I will soon be picking up a 97 Forrester to replace that old RX. Not a GT sadly...how will I survive without a turbo?

ah you'll be right...won't be a huge amount slower and you only need a couple of weekends up your sleve for a WRX front-cut conversion later down the track!!

Will certainly be good to get an actual Forester in our offroading possy!

I would say it will end up like mine

215x70R16 mud & snow
75mm lift
custom rear arms
ford ea bull bar
big front bash plate

it has the rs turbo motor in it , so it should go very well

It has just expanded again 8O

Unexpectedly on the weekend I purchased myself a nice and clean (should read an extremely clean) little Leone Royle. It’s got the 1.8 carb donk in it and no dual range however it has grown up out west (well east of here) and is SO clean that after 18 years only has slight surface rust and some of that red dirt in some hard to get places. The mechanics are in great condition –
- Gearbox seems good and no issues there (cable is stretched to the max though).
- Engine is as quiet as you like (almost hard to tell the thing is running) and fires first time every time, has no lifter noise or anything and hums along.
- cv and rack boot have recently been split however no clicking or issues there either.
- Interior is unbelievably blue and unbelievably clean with the exception of some ball bearing gravel on the floor.
Other then this nothing special. White in colour, roo bar in good nic, 13” rims, reasonable tread on 3 of the 5 tyers blar blar blar.

Plans the initial thoughts are to put all my RX gear into it

Watch other threads about to start for progress (or should I decide to sale or and/or parts).

Three Subarus? Sounds like someone's trying to catch up to me...

Seriously though, good buy Jaffa. Should be a cinch with the RX conversion, especially as you have an RX with which to do it!

One of these days you do need to go EJ though....

Yer i am running out of space.

We decided to go unrego at this stage (sorry Dave) as there was no point in maintaining it while we knew the thing would be off the road for a while. Rego on this will present no issues 8O

I know what we are in for now, the RX has no leaks, it will have no lift and everything else will be factory standard (well maybe not the exhaust, until it passes then the 15" rims, TMIC and BOV go back on) so will not have the problems I have had with the wagon.

There is no hope of us catching you Tim as the work on this will start sooner rather then later and i will have 2 cars and the bike.

We were thinking about the EJ option however given my collection of RX bits and how cheep we should be able to do this to get a second reliable car we could not resist… having 2 EA82T’s though will be fun, and given the AWD in the sedan I may even reconsider some tarmac rally events in the future is we are not burring $ 4WD. I will start another thread with bits that I am thinking about selling.
