I'm looking to get new rear shocks for my car and was just seeing what you guys reconmend. What type of shock, and is there a certain size and where is a good place to get it done.

I am getting a lot of 'scrubbing' on the tyres from the wheel arch's on the rear. I've got king springs in atm, so i think i need to replace the shocks. They are standard L series shocks on there now.

Paul i thinkthat we all have (well at least i have) KYB and Kings - you can not go wrong. Others will be able to advise you however i think that your rims (being incorrect offset) will also help with scrubbing. Sorry i can not be more specific with this i tend to swich off as i have ONLY ever run the correct offset.

Oh, also look at your lift kit i think i remember Vidler was looking at my lift aaaaaaaages ago and we noticed that he did not have the bump stops in the rear - therefore there was nothing to halt the down-ward travel of the body from hitting the tyre (we at least thats what i recall the theory being)

what should the 'bump stops' look like? I'm pretty sure there is nothing in the rear like that. Just a 2" Bracket that joins the shock to the car.

W.A. suspension a good place to get KYB's installed?

when i had the 2" kit and 27" tyres i had the same problem. i had king springs and new KYB's and it still did it. the bump stop is rubber nnogin thingy about half the size of a coke can in the wheel arch. there is a flat plate made into the swing arm designed to hit the rubber thingy and stop the wheel travelling further up. Jaffa's kit had a block spacing this further from the body but mine retained its factory position... have a look at putting a block in there 2 drop it down a bit...

I would love to know how to remove these bump stops... Hatchie has never had some due to me not being able to remove a set. Oddly the threaded hole they screw into is still there on a 2wd subi.

i cant tell you how to remove them... but i can tell you its not easy

tried getting them off when i had a wrecked wagon on its side

tried unscrewing them, but that didnt seem to work
tried just pulling em off, even 3metre long levers going at the things and eventually just munted the car and left em on

Glad i'm not the only one who cant get the bastards out, wanted to replace them 6 months ago because someone had cut them in half to get more suspension travel.

I recall the bump stop was one of the troublesom things to remove when installed the lift kit.
It does screw off.

lol, i'm searching posts for info on KYB front shockies?
would someone know a part # to fit a 85 Lseries ? or would a parts guy know what to look up? prefer to trust you guys tho

KYB shocks in the rear, make sure you get the ones with the spring plate 150mm from the eye.there are 3 heights 130, 130 something and 15omm .mosts susp mobs will sell you the 130mm and tell you thats all there is.i was in a susp shop on Friday and the guy got on the phone Kyb and they definately have the 150 mm in stock.I have 130mm in the rear and with a king spring in there and the with wheel hanging you can move the spring around and the rear sits low and scrubs even with 80mm shock spacers.

my king springs were the same... i didnt need compressors 2 put them in or anything. so is that the shocks or the springs? i bought my kyb's from subaru

its the height of the plate on the shocks.i 'll put money on it that they r 130mm from the eye to the base of the plate, thats normally what they sell ya.i thought my springs were flogged because as soon as you put a load in it it would drop to the bump stops without the bump stop spacers put in.So i pulled em took em back got em measured etc nope good as new.My fix is to make up some 1" alloy spacers and put them on the spring plate to bring it up to 155mm instead of buying new shocks.This will stiffen the ride unloaded a little due to more preload on the springs but should curve the bottoming out.

sounds like a reason why most L series have a sagging back end

my backend is Monroe (long) shocks, and are definitely not sagging, infact the back is a bit high.....had them in for years, still seem alright I think.
Monroe front shocks/struts are sh*t tho......
so are Gabriels by the look of it......
so its KYBs ? i'm not sure given the responses above? seem to have wondered on about the rear shocks ah my fault I guess the topic is about the rear - -ie bump stops and such.
