Pick-a-part or similar in WA?

I was just talking about this with my old man on the phone, and GOD's thread is on the same subject. (I didn't want to hijack that thread, so here's this one)
Namely: Are there any pick-a-part style wreckers that let you go in and take the stuff you want with your own tools? It would be handy, but I don't think I've ever seen any advertisements in perth for this sort of thing.

There used to be one just off the Kenwick Link, possibly on Cooper ave. I haven't been able to find them in the phone book lately though.

I think they were called starparts and are listed under auto recyclers in the yellow pages though am unsure if they still let you do the work yourself.

Star Parts shows up on bloo.com.au, but no website. That's a start though, I might be able to pop by eventually and see what's what.

I think you will be hard pressed to find any wrecker anywhere offering pick a part where you actually get the stuff of the car yourself.
Reason being the risks as a business if anyone was to hurt themselves, the insurance costs would be ridiculous.
You may find one or two who just dont care but i think it will be very unlikely.

Propper wreckers won't have websites, they don't know about these strange computer things

Yellowpages is about the most advanced form of advertising they know.

In WA from what I heard the pick-a-part style wreckers has to be closed down due insurance - I might be wrong, heard it from a mate of mine from Vic in WA and he is bummed that you cant find PAP type..

When i started going to pick a part type wreckers nearly 15 years ago they had the cars stacked 2 high, not secured at all

You would be working on the bottom one while someone was climbing round in the one on top, dropping stuff and making it rock back an forth above ya. Safety, whats that?

Yeah I remember that, sometimes there would be triple stack! You can blame them for putting cars on the top of other and other people making cars un-safe/un-secure making them fall on other people. - that is the blame.

I went there not long before it closed. It was crap anyway - there was ONE L series about 40% complete, that was it. The rest was old holdens and mitsubishits. Lucky I just needed a Magna handbrake lever for the Crossbred conversion

*edit - yeah there were quite a few cars sitting on 4 rims, not connected to their hubs, rather under the sills propping them up.
