Cheap Car/L series?

Post by Corax » Sat Jun 12, 2010 9:17 pm

Hey Suba-Dudes,

Just wondering if anybody knows where I could find a cheap L series (cheaper the better). I need a car that I can drive to Perth on a regular basis ie something that won't die in the middle of nowhere. Would also like the car to be as stock as possible. ie no lift kits etc.
Also wondering if an L series doesn't become available what other cars would you guys recommend. Want something Cheap to buy (and run!), that will keep going and going and that I could throw all my crap in (surfboards, swags etc.)
More input the better.

Cheers,
Corax.

Hey Corax.. there are plenty of good Libertys going around that are at a good price. Do you need a 4WD model?

Shame you are in WA, because i have a L series wagon registered in my front yard that i dont need any more. No lift, just put new engine in and has little rust.

When i was in WA last i seen quite a few subarus getting around so surely you will be able to find a decent enough one.

Yeah i agree... Get a Liberty. Get a fwd sedan and there is less chance it has been hammered. These are popping up pretty cheap now.

I will keep my eyes pealed for you.

Hey Guys,

Seems I am on the wrong side of the country! Was thinking the old L series wagon would be good cause I like to go surfing down south (4wd comes in handy in some spots) and it's good to stash the boards inside the car as well as to sleep in. Also when I go up to Perth it is also good to have a car that no-one wants to steal! (no offence to L owners, but I can't see a stock L series outrunning a cop car anytime soon). But yeah a Lib would do the trick but I thought a L would be cheaper to run and look after.

Cheers,
Corax.

Yeah.. you're right :) no one wants to steal an L :D

I'm just thinking for money value on the Libertys are getting good at the moment but like you say the L is a cheap run-around (petrolwise) Just keep your eye out for one without too much rust which is getting harder.

Yeah I know what you mean, its getting tough to find an L which has not found religion (ie is quite whole-y, geddit?) but you never know your luck. Plus there are 6 sitting in the local wreakers so tonnes of spares available.
Matt just read your add in the for sale section for your L, sounds exactly like what I am after. If nothing turns up might be time for a monster road trip!:D Its about 5000km from Townsville to Bunbury. Certainly would be a good display of the L's endurance!

It just a warm up for a Suby! LOL! But it would be a wicked trip! Side note but i might be sold already but i will let you know on Friday. PM an offer as i am sure my Brother would rather see it go to a Suby Nutt. Also i am happy to drop it off to any transport mob you want.

Nah dude would definitly fly over (only $300 one way, must strap you to the wing I think!) and drive her back. What a trip! Would head down the middle and catch up with a mate in Alice, plus never seen the big red rock before.
Seriously though will have a look locally for a few weeks first and if yours is still available after then who knows? You might just hear from me. Cheers.

Thanks for the help/offers guys, will see how things go. Would prefer to flog my brumby before I get the next car. One other thing, what issues/problems/rust/etc should I be aware of when I start looking at L's?

Cheers.

Rust around the front windscreen is pretty common.
