GD Impreza tyre carrier

Hey all
After much delay due to the recent Perth heat wave, I finally extracted a digit yesterday and got my rear tyre carrier mounted.
It is from a Mitsubishi RVR, and I strongly recommend it as a base to work from.

Just need to refine the bumper cutting and it will look factory.

Yeah shame you had to cut into the bumper like that but otherwise it almost looks factory.

Mounting it the way I decided to go, that is not modifying the RVR carrier bar (about 120mm square tube) I was always going to have to cut the bumper to fit over it the bar.
People with more fabrication (any as opposed to none) skills than me could have done it much neater, but I'm happy it's never going to fall off as it is bolted to the chassis and welded onto the tow bar.
I will clean the bumper up a bit in time, but have already mounted the standard plastic trim back onto the carrier and the right hand side hole is pretty much hidden when closed.
I think the car looks purposeful now, and i am now hanging to install my kings lift springs and subtle solutions lift blocks (once they finally arrive after Australia post sending them back to the states...)

I am really looking forward to getting it out there on some dirt tracks and as you say, drive it places an impreza wasn't meant to go. The photos of the recent beach run really served to get me fired up.
I may pull the struts out and do the springs this weekend, and then pull the struts out again when the strut lift finally arrives. Was putting it off because it makes sense to do the job once, but who knows when the strut lift will turn up.
After that I have one more major job I'm yet to tick off, being the sump guard, but I think that I may ask the boys at JWS to fit one of their rally spec ones. Quoted me $150 supply and fit, and I think that is dirt cheap.
She'll be pretty much completed then. A dual range '04 Impreza with 70,000KM, cruise control, climate control air con, air bags, CD player ect but with lift, off road tyres, rear tyre carrier, sump guard and a driver with a huge smile on his dial.

Great one of a kind car, you guys could start a Offroad impreza club:D
Why don't you come to Guilderton with us on the sat 19th - Sun20th of March to test the car.
We are just going for a good time and explore places.
And don't worry if you don't have the strut blocks, We will all gladly push and dig if you get bogged:)
