Trip to Coffin Bay SA

Post by RSR 555 » Wed Mar 16, 2011 3:50 pm

Hey all.. I'm planning a trip to Coffin Bay SA (from what I'm told the most awesome place for camping and fishing in SA) and interested in meeting up with any of the eastern states guys. I'm looking to go around mid September this year or later if anyone else or as a group decide a better date. I'm also posting this to get ideas from any members who have done the trip across the nullabor and found some or heard about some perfect camping spots. I would like to make this a 2 to 3 week trip as the travelling would take up around 6 days (3 each way). I have got some plans and spots but would like more options.

Cheers,
Paul

Wow.. I can't believe time is flying so fast. Well September is almost here but I've decided to make this trip at the end of the year (mainly due to commitments), so if anyone is interested.. I would like to catch up with anyone willing to join us on a fishng/4WDing/Camping trip.

I'm planning to leave WA just after Christmas and get to Coffin Bay in time for New Years Eve. I'm planning on staying 1 to 2 weeks (depends on everyone else) and then heading back west checking out some of the spots Dave (D3V1L) is evenually going to tell us about ;)

So who's in?

You fixing the Outback? You'll need some lift in that one too, as H6 are low and heavy.

Well I've been doing some math to work out a few things if I can come for the trip. (Depends on work)

With the $$ side this is what I've worked..

Averaging 11-13l to the 100km in my Forester I'd get ~450 to a tank (50L to be safe, rather than pushing it to it's 60L capacity). So 450km to 50L and the average fuel price would be around $1.65 (better higher than lower for my calculations) so that's ~$85 to a tank of fuel.
Now it's 2300km from Perth to Coffins Bay each way for us WA guys. Round that upto 5000km for the trip there and back. Plus another ~500km im offroading and other shit. So if I say 6000km for the trip in a week or two (however long it is). My fuel bill should be around $1100.
Could I safely say that $1500 is adequate for petrol? I also want to allow another $1200 for any major break down/repair or freight back to Perth in the event my very unreliable Subaru needs shit done to it
Obviously food and extra money too ~$1500
This is just for me alone as I am unsure if I will be carrying passengers in my car (yes I'm single lol)
I am in the process of sorting out what else needs setting up/fixing in my Forester...
So would 4k be adequate for my expenses. Now being an apprentice I need to start saving and sorting myself out..
