Margaret River Camping 24-25 weekend trip

Hi Guys,

Well its seems the Overnighter on Preston Beach trip might be a flop. Because i'm normally much more popular and organise much better trips i thought id make up for the Preston Beach fail.....

Hahahahaha,,, Sry Paul, i SO whated to say that:p Hummmm after second thoughts looks like i'll be getting my gearbox much much later 'never' now:D

ANYWAY, to the point....

Hey guys,

Planning to go camping on the weekend of the 24-25 March 2012...
There is a surf competition and seems to that its gonna include famous surfers like Kelly Slater etc and going to be fun.

The plan is to head down to go 4wding, fishing, explore, surfing, camping but also go and have a 1/4 or 1/2 day look at the competition...

Hoping to find if there is a Legal place to camp, if not we will just find somewhere to spend the night.

Even if I was in town that weekend, it would be the last place on earth I would go near.

I went one year as I have friends who live near the town, talk about a bun fight to get around or get anything done. and good luck finding a camping spot Prevelly Park, Yallingup, Cowaramup caravan parks and any other legal camping ground will be overflowing.

I've been in WA for over 4years now and basically did two rocks, Lancelin, wedge. Never went to Margs, wave rock, pinackles, Albany, Exmouth and all the spots along the way. I'll try to do a few this year. Also planning to go to exmouth on the easter break:)

Ohhh and Jules, guess what. I was gonna buy this cheap red Lib about two days ago only to be beaten by a few minutes by Paul and Glen:( Lol Remember the impreza? gues what goes around come around haha, Ohh well, i'll find another one:)
Oh and the friend i sold the impreza to at cost price after i fixed the Wpump etc sold it today for $2700 lol

Best of luck.. you would need to book this about 2 years ago to get in anywhere.. There is no legal camping anywhere down there and the only place I know of, was burnt down during the fires that went through Prev about 2 months ago.

I'd love to go but I'm already 2 weeks behind work at the shop, due to going back (to the other job) early. I'm also looking at moving the workshop closer to home, so this makes things even worse for me this time home.

I don't think Jules was trying to put you off going.. just giving you a heads up. You go and enjoy it mate. It's well worth going to see and you make it as much fun as you like.

there is a ranger down there with a hilux that got me and made24x4 4wding in an illeagal area (there was nothing we saw to say it was not legit). copped a $200 fine each car.

it was worth it though, he then spent 45 mins trying to get his ute up a dune onto the main track again. absolutely tore up the bush and track, destroyed everything

. eventually he dumped the 400l of water in the tray and let down his tyres and got up after a few more attempts.

he then lectured us on DEC's policy of no towing out and he wasn't sure how we were going to get our little wagons out. and how we shouldn't be taking cars like that off-road.

the 2 subis drove out first go...

Guy, see if you can find him and show him what a real L series can do! (btw, i would avoid the 'sacred ground' if i were you, apparently we were only a few k's from that and thats a 10k fine)

during the drug aware pro legal camping facilities include anywhere you can sleep in your car and not get caught.. hopefully they get some swell agin this year last year was nuts, but yeh if your going to camp illegally make sure your not near anywhere that is remotely accessable as they apparently do a few sweeps down there each night looking for campers... but there are enough spots you'd get away with it... camping is just prevelly park which got burnt down, i think there is one in yallingup though... but all in all the pro is a great event and apparently the big KS is surfing there this year and if you head out for a surf early enough in the mornings you'll catch a few of the pros catching a few feet finders in the morning.. and settlers = winning for the weekend.
