Well, tomorrow, barring some cataclysmic event…

Of the ’97 vintage, totally stock, and it’s practically begging for a few scratches and some soft sand.
Keen to find some nice unsealed terrain over the weekend and give it a better test drive. Are there any good spots relatively close to Perth? Anyone keen for a mission?

Also after a few goodies to help her adjust to her new lifestyle:
- Roof racks, kayak 'bits' would be a bonus.
- Shifter linkages/bushings – existing ones are well slogged out.
- Wreckers, who’s worth going to and who isn’t?
- Window tinting, any particular recommendations?

That will do for starters, plenty more on the cards, never fear!

Two Rocks, Wibinga and Wedge are north of perth. 70km or so and are good fun. Can always go out to the pines aswell for some really soft bush sand.

All those places Taza mentioned i wouldnt reccommend attempting in a stock height outback without decent size all terrains. They are very challenging locations, Two Rocks/ Wibinga caused huge problems even for my 4.5" above stock height outback.

At the pines there are some areas where clearance isnt too much of an issue but you will deffinately be needing either some very offroad capable H/Ts or some A/T tires larger than stock. Pines is good fun.

I seem to remember your car and mine being the only 2 lifted ones at Two Rocks and Wibinga with 17 other Subarus..... It'll go fine but of course lift does help.

Yes the pipes is fun but lift is almost definately needed for a stock Subie and AT tyres really help.

And every single one of them struggled. Im saying if you want to have a much more enjoyable experience try somewhere a little easier untill more kitted up with at least A/Ts and some recovery gear.

Yours didn't though and neither did Longy...

My power was a small issue but I managed and clearance was once.

All those places Taza mentioned I have done successfully in my STANDARD Brumby. I would expect a 97 Outback to be a breeze. Of course there are the usual things to playing in the sand.. the biggest key is tyre pressure and pick your lines (remember not to follow the larger 4WD tracks).

Yeah Paul is right, you don't need that much lift. If a Nissan Micra Made it, I don't see why an outback wouldn't. U may have to try a few times or even dig yourself out but its all part of the fun. Just go with a group of people/cars and you'll be fine.

Have driven on sand once or twice before as I'm sure Master Bluesteel can atest. Have nothing in the way of recovery gear at present though.

Thinking of leaving around 2pm, as I'm planning on camping on the beach and having an early morning fish but people can come and go as they please.

Oh and I have the recovery gear if needed but doubt you'll need it on Wedge Is. beach, unless you want to start exploring 'D-gen style'

Bought genuine shifter bushes from subaru, $40 for 4
Makes a world of difference,bit of a pain to replace but worth it

well, glad to see you forgot i was there...
i was that guy that was umm, yanno... just the trip leader???
and there were another 2 members with small lifts i think.

Sounds like it went very well in the sand! Did the front bar become a sand scoop? Phizinza's did on our robe trip early last year but I'd imagine that the conditions were very different!
