I've got a pair in the back of my RX-7. They are over 7 years old since regassing and still as strong as day one.

also u can get them from supercheap for like $20 each if the spealist turns out to be expensive.
btw the ones i have on the new soob are so good that the hatch hit me in the face the first time i opened it.

Im sure $20 is the going rate for the small ones... for a single side. But im betting the Subaru ones are a lot more... i recall paying closer to $70 for my old wagon a while back... granted your shop was called Marlows then... and had a hell of a lot more Subi related parts i might add.

here is what i have done over the years when a strut has died. i get a length of pvc pipe that just slides over the strut cut it to the length of the chrome part of the strut and slide it over. opens up and automatically clicks into place and all you do is centre it when you lower the hatch. guaranteed to never have a hatch fall down on you.

waggaclint: no not 100% sure that theyre $20. could be like $30 a side, id have to check, but thats all the sizes not just small ones.
have a look anyway if u want em cheaper.
or else try a suba wreckers

That's a good tip, I'll have to try that out some day!

Yep we did that to Dad's commodore wagon. Only problem is when you (or your mum) always forget they are there and snap them in half when trying to close the tailgate again!
In the end we just got some new struts cause they weren't really that expensive.

I wouldn't get second hand ones unless u want to have the same problem in a few months time... If you got new ones you will never look back.

Can you please let us know how much you paid. Mine has the expensive PVC pipe option and wouldn't mind getting the real deal.
