Inspiration

I feel that i owe Andrew and Tim a BIG THANKS.
I few weeks ago they lobbed into my place (after helping out Hatchi) and we were discussing ideas and how i do not/have not followed through on many of my ideas
Anyway after this conversation i have once again pulled out the ol pencil and paper and the creative juices are flowing again, so thanks. It will prob take a while for me to turn them from drawings to an actual product but i am working towards things again - THANKS.
Oh and Andrew how's my trailer idea comming along?

I was SO close to doing this but I have decided against it...
It would have been so good, I even measured it - almost exactly 6 x 4 dimensions. And I've got my wreck sitting here just crying out to be turned into something awesome like this.
The major problem is the wheel arches and rear strut tops. Box trailers have these on the outside of the box, my Subaru trailer would have them on the inside. Unfortunately they would make it an extremely impractical trailer.
Perhaps I could live with it if it was converted into a full fold-out camp trailer but that's abit more work than I can handle at present.

If you are willing to get rid of it let me talk to the boss however i am thinking that we may have moved past this now. Oh and it was never ment to be a trailer as such more of a great way of staorage and carring more gear for camping, and having all Subaru gear.

hmmm....I *may* still do it and keep it as a completely enclosed wagon with the windows, roof, tailgate etc....
god it would be awesome hehe - must talk to my trailer building buddy.

Wonder how heavy it's going to end up.
A complete L series weighs about 1100kilos. Now it's going to have the entire front end including engine and gearbox removed. The cut will be between the front and rear seats.
Obviously from the rear I can remove...
diff
driiveshafts
tailshaft
fuel tank
Brakes is an interesting one......potentially it would be very easy to have a brake assisted trailer here!
But seriously though, you're only allowed to tow a maximum of around 500 kilos behind an L series (trailer including load). I just want to make sure I can actually make good practical use of this so it's not just a novelty

Depending on how the balance of weight works out you might need to make it dual axle, I reckon it'd look pretty tough, and as far as I know if it's braked trailer and load an way as much as the car.

Yeah but I'm pretty sure braked or unbraked you have to abide by the vehicle's GVM (on the compliance plate).

buddy.
thats a lot of weight just there...having taken off/on the tailgate..its a heavy bugger with glass an all....
as a open tray may be useful, but enclosed? probably just show value?

Yeah, enclosed will just be like having another wagon space (literally). I think open tray would be more useful but the wheel arches and strut tops are just too much of a drawback over a nice cheap 6x4 trailer.
