home made trailer, rego in SA, q's?

Post by Phizinza » Tue Apr 21, 2009 1:49 pm

Does anyone know what the process is for getting a home made car trailer registered in South Australia? And where to find the requirements for a car trailer?
Cheers,

Did some googling :)

This one has some basic info;
http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/personal ... ailers.asp

This is more specific;
http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/ ... index.aspx

Some basic regs;
http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/pdfs/per ... towing.pdf

You may need to speak to your local vehicle registration joint regarding the specifics of getting it registered (what address to take it to etc).

You will more than likely have to take it through regency to get it cleared as road legal.

I didn't know it was even possible to get a home-built trailer registered. I have a crappy old trailer that used to be my dad's, and he's advised me to keep the rego plate and build one around it...which is probably cheating or something. :P
Living in Canada now. Looking at all these SVXs for sale...

half the trailers on the road would have the manufacturer listed as "home made"

Dad's trailer is home made as well but RTA (VicRoads) said "Oh its standard trailer size and no need to register it" so yeah it hasnt been registered for 35 yrs now..
