SA Utility Registration prices.....

Post by Phizinza » Tue Jul 14, 2015 10:25 pm

When I lived in the country registration for the Brumby was less than a Wagon or Sedan (because of the subsidies for farmers I believe). But now in metro area it's under class 2 instead of class 52, which costs more than a Wagon or Sedan in metro.

My latest renewal papers seem out of wack. It has the same price for the no and yes premium class, $788 for 12 months. Never had this before and when I checked prices online it should actually be $758 with no premium class. I'll have to chase this up, but I'm just wondering what others rego renewal cost is for their Brumby's to see if the numbers line up...?

Might need to move back to the country just to afford to register my ute!

It's stupid because I don't even use the car as a commercial vehicle and surely the only reason for the insurance to cost more on a commercial vehicle is because they would be on the road more so more likely to hit someone?

My cousin gets stung like this every year for his ute that's for private use only - and is more like a wagon in use than a ute.

Country living is the way to go ;)

Our cost of rego isn't even THAT high for private vehicles in metro areas afaik!

Cheers

My Brumby rego in Vic metro (just) area is just over $600 from memory, same as my partner's sedan. $788 in SA metro is just daylight robbery. Looks like club plates aren't an option in SA for MY's (has to be made before 1979).

I don't actually disagree with that rule, as I am seeing all kinds of s*%boxes on the roads here in Vic with club plates. Patrols, Hiace vans, 3rd gen Supra's, KE70 Corolla's are all cars I can't in my right mind classify as historic cars...

Looks like you are getting ripped off, my latest renewal notice has $731 for no premium class 2 and $768 with premium class 42.

The rates have definitely gone up lately. I remember getting a letter in the mail a while ago saying they'd re-jigged their insurance stuff so rates were going down; and they did from $210 for 3 months to $170 something. It was this way for less than a year though until it suddenly jumped back to $194 for 3 months without a word from them to explain why  This is all for my Brumby by the way, having to pay more than everyone else because it's a ute :(

On the plus side, you can park in any loading zone :)

It jumped back up because of a levy for road accident caused by unregistered (uninsured) drivers... Which is $110 to $130 a year.

Upside (maybe) is that you can park in Loading Zones for the full 30 minutes!

Problem is even if I'm legally allowed to do that im unlikely going to do it for a nonbusiness situation as there could well be someone working needing that spot.

Atleast SA still has no inspections except for long term unregistered cars or cars from interstate... for now. I suppose

We dont have inspections either except for registering an unlicensed vehicle or interstate transfer or a defect notice.

My rellies in the UK couldn't believe it when I told them we have no regular road-worthiness inspections...they have one every year! And a rust hole the size of a 10c piece over there is an MOT failure, car is then worth scrap value unless it is fixed  But they can't take chances over there with rusty old bombs on the motorways.

Oddly enough I received my VicRoads renewal in the mail today, $652.80 which is almost $50 more than last year. $277.70 of rego and $341 of TAC PLUS another $34.10 of insurance duty (on top of the $31 GST already included in the TAC charge). Not sure how $34.10 of insurance duty isn't a tax on a tax, which I'm sure little Johnny told us would never happen with a GST.
On a vehicle that does less than 7000km a year....
